Object documentation Function Identifier  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Definition

Reference field that creates a direct connection between the actual configuration and the master parts list (based on iPPE nodes) of a maintenance object, and thus enables a comparison.

Use

The function identifier (FID) connects equipment, equipment BOM items, or structure gaps of the actual configuration with the corresponding structure nodes of the allowed configuration. If the FID is missing, no configuration check can take place.

Note

A Business Add-In (BAdI) enables the use of the function identifier. The SAP standard implementation rules that the name of the function identifier must be identical to the name of the corresponding iPPE structure node. If you want to change this rule, you must create your own implementation of the BAdI. For more information, see Business Add-Ins.

The function identifier is also important in connection with configuration changes. During a configuration check, a structure gap is automatically created or deleted during the removal and installation of a piece of equipment.

If a piece of equipment or equipment BOM item has a function identifier and if it is removed from a superordinate technical object, the structure gap created inherits the FID of the removed piece of equipment or equipment BOM item. This information is used for the later installation of a piece of equipment in this structure gap.

If a piece of equipment is installed in a structure gap underneath a superordinate piece of equipment or functional location, the equipment inherits the FID of the structure gap that was deleted with the installation.

You maintain the FID as follows:

For equipment in the equipment master record or in the Configuration Control Workbench.

For structure gaps in the Configuration Control Workbench.

For BOM items (non-serialized parts) in the equipment BOM master record or in the Configuration Control Workbench.
