Defining a Function Identifier
To be able to carry out a configuration check you must assign a function identifier to the equipment, equipment BOM items or structure gaps in the actual configuration of an object. This enables the system to compare the actual and allowed configuration (the corresponding iPPE structure nodes in the master parts list).
You can define the function identifiers for the structure gap, equipment and equipment BOM items in the following ways:
Object |
Configuration Control Workbench (CCM2) |
Create/Change Equipment (IE01/IE02) |
Create/Change Equipment BOM (IB01/IB02) |
Structure gap |

The SAP standard implementation rules that the name of the function identifier must be identical to the name of the corresponding iPPE structure node. If you want to change this rule, you must create your own implementation of the BADI_CCM_FID Business Add-In. For more information, see Business Add-Ins.
● You have maintained the actual configuration of the respective technical object.
● You have maintained the master parts list of the respective object.
For more information, see Preparatory Activities for the Configuration Check.

You can define function identifiers in the following ways:
For defining the function identifier for equipment
1. On the SAP Easy Access screen, choose Logistics → Plant Maintenance → Management of Technical Objects → Equipment → Create or Change.
2. Enter the equipment you require and press Enter.
3. Choose the Configuration Control tab page.
4. Enter the name of the corresponding iPPE structure node in the Function Indicator field and save.
For defining the function identifier for equipment BOM items:
1. On the SAP Easy Access screen, choose Logistics → Plant Maintenance → Management of Technical Objects → Bill of Material → Equipment BOM → Create or Change.
2. Enter the equipment you require, enter BOM usage Configuration Control and press Enter.
3. Choose the Material tab page.
4. Enter the function identifier and save.
You can define the function identifier of a structure gap, equipment or equipment BOM item in the Configuration Control Workbench.
...
1. On the SAP Easy Access screen, choose Logistics → Plant Maintenance → Management of Technical Objects → Configuration Control → Configuration Control Workbench.
2. Explode the technical structure down to the appropriate level and double-click on the structure gap, equipment or equipment BOM item.
3. A group box appears in the right-hand screen area. Enter the function identifier and save.
The piece of equipment, equipment BOM item, or structure gap concerned is taken into account during a later configuration check. The system uses the assigned function identifier to determine the corresponding iPPE structure node, and compares the equipment, equipment BOM item or the structure gap with the information on the valid parts that are maintained in the master parts list.
