Definition

The actual configuration is the current hierarchy structure of a technical object and can be composed of functional locations, equipment, equipment BOM items (non-serialized parts) and structure gaps.

Note

To enable you to use non-serialized parts in Configuration Control, you must make settings in the Configuration Control-specific equipment BOM Customizing transaction. For more information, see Non-Serialized Parts in the Equipment BOM

Use

For an overall configuration check within the Configuration Control component, the system compares the actual configuration of a given object with its allowed configuration. The allowed configuration is an iPPE reference structure that contains all the possible variants of the corresponding object. For more information, see Master Parts List.

In the configuration control workbench, you can display the actual configuration of a technical object as a tree structure.

Structure

There are two options for structuring an actual configuration:

As a pure equipment hierarchy (including equipment BOM items if you make the relevant Customizing settings).

As a mixed hierarchy of functional locations, equipment (serialized parts) and equipment BOM items (if you make the relevant Customizing settings).

Caution

When you create a mixed hierarchy, note that a 1:1 relationship between functional locations and equipments must be created between the (superordinate) hierarchy of the functional locations and the (subordinate) equipment hierarchy.

The following graphic shows the construction of a mixed hierarchy composed of functional locations, equipment (for serialized parts) and equipment BOM items (for non-serialized parts):

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text
