You use docking locations to group loading points that are situated at the same geographical location. You can use docking locations to keep an overview of your location if you have many loading points at one location. You can also use different docking locations to represent different locations if you plan loading appointments for loading points in more than one location.

Integration

If you want to integrate SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling with SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM), you must create docking locations and assign them to your warehouses. For more information, see Integration with SAP EWM.

Docking Locations and Loading Points

You can create a docking location first and then specify the docking location in new loading points. Alternatively, if you have loading points in your system already, you can group the loading points together into a docking location.

The system uses the time zone, country, number range, and integration with SAP EWM of the docking location when creating the loading points for that docking location. The system also copies the configuration of the restricted planning period, the slot duration, and the arrival lead time from the docking location to the loading points, but this information can be changed for each loading point.

We recommend that you create the docking location first, and then create the loading points for it.

If you create the loading points first, then the following information must be identical in the loading points and the docking location:

  • Time zone

  • Country

  • Number range

  • Integration with SAP EWM

You can assign multiple loading points to a docking location. You cannot assign a loading point to more than one docking location.

Default Values for Loading Points in the Docking Location

You can define values for attributes in a docking location, and the system uses these values when creating loading points assigned to it. These values can be changed in individual loading points and do not have to be identical in each loading point of a docking location.

You can define the following values:

Carriers

If you allow carriers to plan their own loading appointments in SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling, you can use docking locations so appointment planners for carriers do not need to specify the exact loading point for each loading appointment. The appointment planner for carrier can plan the appointments for the docking location, and the system assigns the loading appointment to the individual loading point.

Supply Chain Unit of a Docking Location

The system links each docking location to a supply chain unit (SCU) with the same name. You can specify an SCU that already exists for the docking location. If you do not specify an SCU for the docking location, the system automatically creates a new SCU using name the docking location.

If the system creates a new SCU for the docking location, it uses the data you enter in the docking location in SCU-specific fields, such as address data, time zone, or factory calendar, during the SCU creation. This SCU has the business attribute docking location (DL).

If you create a docking location for an SCU that already exists, the SCU must have the business attribute docking location (DL). The system automatically enters the SCU data into the docking location.

You can change SCU-specific data in the SCU maintenance transactions only.

The system uses the SCU to integrate the docking location to the warehouse in SAP EWM in the integrated scenario. For more information, see Integration with SAP EWM.
