Actions
You can carry out the following actions in the Shipping Cockpit – Planning
:
Create TU and Assign Delivery or Create TU
In the Deliveries
screen area, you can use the Create TU & Assign Delivery
button to create a new transportation unit (TU) and to assign outbound delivery orders to it in one step. To do this, you must have already selected one or more outbound delivery orders. In the Transportation Units
screen area, you can use the Create TU
button to create a new, empty TU.
In both cases, the system displays a dialog box in which you can enter an external ID for the TU and attributes such as carrier or standard carrier alpha code (SCAC), means of transport, packaging material, planned arrival and departure time, and Planned Times Fixed
status. The system may automatically fill in some of these attributes if the information can be retrieved from the outbound delivery orders or if the information is unique in the system.
Change TU
You can change the attributes of an existing TU using the Change TU
button. For example, if there is no carrier assigned to the TU, you can enter a carrier or a SCAC in the Change TU
dialog box. You can also change attributes the packaging material, or the planned times and the Planned Times Fixed
status. You can also enter further information as TU identification, for example, a phone number.
If a TU that you want to change in the shipping cockpit is being processed in another transaction at the same time, the system still allows you to change the data in the Change TU
dialog box. Thus, the data you see in this dialog box might be obsolete. However, when you save your changes, you the system displays an error message if the TU is still locked by another transaction.
Delete TU
You can delete one or more TUs using the Delete TU
button. When you delete a TU that has outbound delivery orders assigned to it, the system displays a warning dialog box. Once you confirm this dialog box, the system unassigns the outbound delivery orders from the TU before deleting the TU. If you delete a TU that is assigned to a vehicle and the vehicle does not have any other TUs assigned to it, the system also deletes the vehicle.
Schedule Times
Time scheduling is a complex feature of the shipping cockpit. For more information, see Time Scheduling.
Assign, Unassign, and Reassign Deliveries
You can assign deliveries to TUs using the Assign Deliveries
button in the delivery tree after selecting the outbound delivery orders in the Delivery
tree and the TU in the Transportation Units
tree. You can also assign them by dragging and dropping the outbound delivery orders from the Delivery
tree to the TU. The shipping cockpit always creates TU assignments on the outbound delivery order header level. You can unassign outbound delivery orders from a TU with the Unassign Delivery
button. You can also unassign outbound delivery orders from one TU and reassign them to another by dragging and dropping them in the Transportation Units
tree.
Assign and Unassign Door
The Assign Door
action assigns a warehouse door to a TU and updates the outbound delivery orders that are assigned to that TU. The system only updates outbound delivery order items for which no warehouse activities have started. For large numbers of outbound delivery order items (more than 100), the delivery update is done asynchronously, to allow the user to continue working on other TUs. The Update Info
column shows the status of the background job that is updating the outbound delivery orders, and warns about inconsistencies between TUs and outbound delivery orders. This field is updated upon every screen interaction, so there is no need to refresh the TU to see whether the update is finished.
Assign Staging Area and Staging Area Planning
The Assign Staging Area
action assigns the staging location (staging area group, staging area, and staging bay) to all outbound delivery orders of the selected TU. You can use the Staging Area Planning
view to find a free staging area or staging bin for assignment. For more information, see Staging Area Planning.

If your warehouse is integrated with SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling, you cannot change the staging area group once an appointment for the TU has been created in SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling. For more information about SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling, see SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling
Create Wave
You can use the Create Wave
action to create waves and wave items for outbound delivery orders. For more information, see Creating Waves.
Refresh in TU View
You can use the Refresh
button to read one or more TUs again without having to repeat the whole selection. This action also refreshes the outbound delivery orders that are assigned to the TU.
Note
The shipping cockpit does not display a success message after an action has been successfully executed.
