Definition

Activation variants are used for storing and reusing more complex activations. An activation variant consists of a list of checkpoint groups and/or compilation units (for example, executable programs, function groups, and class pools), with the specification of an operation mode, but with the specification of the context (user or server). The context is specified only when an activation variant is activated. Afterwards, an activation setting with the respective operation mode and the context specified at activation time is generated for all the objects contained in the activation variant.

We differentiate between local and global activation variants. Global activation variants are user-independent and can be transported. Local activation variants must always be assigned to a specific user and cannot be transported.

In the display of a checkpoint group, the "Activation Variants" tab shows which activation variants the checkpoint group is assigned to. The display is divided into Global Activation Variants and Local Activation Variants. Only your own local activation variants are listed under Local Activation Variants.
