Reuse Mode
Setting that controls how a procurement planning heuristic processes existing procurement proposals.
The following table shows the procurement planning heuristics for which the reuse mode is relevant:

The following reuse modes are available:
· Use suitable receipts
· Delete unfirmed receipts
· Delete unfirmed receipts, re-explode firmed receipts
· Re-explode plan
The reuse modes are described in the following sections.
For this reuse mode, the standard heuristic SAP_PP_003 for planning shortage quantities differs from other procurement planning heuristics as follows:
· Other heuristics
The heuristic uses the net requirements calculation to determine the uncovered requirements. The heuristic only takes account of the firmed receipts, meaning receipts with the status PP firmed. Using the procurement quantity calculation and source determination, the heuristic then determines procurement proposals for the uncovered requirements. However, before the heuristic creates a new procurement proposal, it searches in the reuse interval for an existing, unfirmed “suitable” procurement proposal. “Suitable” means that the receipt has the same source of supply, the same receipt quantity, and the same characteristic requirements. For products with discrete receipts, the order priority must also match. If several suitable receipts exist in the reuse interval, the heuristic selects the receipt based on its availability date/time and the reuse strategy defined. The heuristic only creates a new procurement proposal if it does not find a suitable receipt in the reuse interval.
· Heuristic for planning shortage quantities
The heuristic uses the net requirements calculation to determine the uncovered requirements. The heuristic not only takes account of the firmed receipts, but also the unfirmed receipts. Unfirmed receipts are therefore regarded as “suitable” for the net requirements calculation. The heuristic then determines new procurement proposals for the uncovered requirements or reduces surplus receipts that are not firmed. Since the heuristic already reuses unfirmed receipts in the net requirements calculation, the reuse interval and the reuse strategy are not relevant.
In this reuse mode, the heuristic deletes existing, unfirmed receipts. In this action, the heuristic for planning shortage quantities also differs from other heuristics as follows:
· Other heuristics
The heuristic uses the net requirements calculation to determine the uncovered requirements and creates procurement proposals for these uncovered requirements.
· Heuristic for planning shortage quantities
The heuristic takes account of the unfirmed receipts during the net requirements calculation. After the net requirements calculation, the heuristic deletes the unfirmed receipts and substitutes them with new receipts of the same quantity.
The heuristic executes planning as in the reuse mode Delete unfirmed receipts. In addition, it re-explodes the plan (PPM plan, iPPE process structure, or PP/DS runtime object) for the fixed in-house production orders, provided the order status allows this. For a re-explosion, an order may not have any of the following statuses:
· Released
· Started
· Partially confirmed
· Finally confirmed
· Partially delivered
· Finally delivered
The heuristic executes planning as for Use suitable receipts. The heuristic then re-explodes the plan for unfirmed and firmed in-house production orders. It is only possible to re-explode a firmed in-house production order if the status of the order permits this (see above).
Before a heuristic run, the system determines the reuse mode automatically using the following reuse modes:
· Reuse mode in the planning file
· Reuse mode in the settings for the procurement planning heuristic
· Reuse mode in the settings for the MRP heuristic
This reuse mode is only relevant if you call the procurement planning heuristic using an MRP heuristic.
