Function documentationTransfer of In-House Production Orders with CDP Data to SAP ERP Locate this document in the navigation structure

In-house production orders with Characteristics-Dependent Planning (CDP) characteristics are usually created as planned orders in SAP APO, and converted to production orders (process orders) during the transfer to SAP ERP.

Prerequisites

A prerequisite for integration with in-house production is SAP ERP 4.5B.

For all nodes that have characteristic value assignments set, the material must be configurable or a material variant in the ERP system. A configuration profile must be assigned to the configurable material, and the characteristics used must be assigned to the variant class of the material. If characteristic requirements are used, a corresponding class for batch classification must be assigned to the material.

Features

If you are working with production data structures (PDS), the system determines the values for CDP from the configuration (see Production Data Structures (PDS) for CDP and Block Planning).

If you are working with production process models, you can derive the characteristic value assignments at the input and output nodes of an SAP APO order using the characteristics propagation at the production process model (PPM) (see Production Process Model Plans for CDP and Block Planning). The valuations are transferred back to the ERP system with the order. The valuations at the nodes are stored as configurations in the ERP system.

If you have specified characteristics requirements in the PPM plan, the system transfers the requirements at the input nodes to the ERP system as batch selection criteria (see Define Characteristic Requirements).

Note Note

When defining the PPM plans in SAP APO, note that reconfiguration is not supported in SAP ERP. For product variants, you can only use variant configuration.

Only exception: For an order with an individual customer segment, the system copies the configuration of the sales order that possibly deviates from the material master record when the material is identical with the sales order.

End of the note.

For configurable materials in the individual customer segment: If the material number of the production order matches the assigned sales order item, the characteristics from the sales order are referenced in the ERP system (as for the product variant). Potential differing values in SAP APO are not taken into account. In the ERP system, the characteristic values are only copied from SAP APO in the case of a material number in the individual customer segment that varies from the sales order.

Note Note

Make-to-stock production with configurable materials is not allowed in the ERP system. When planning in a warehouse segment, you can only retransfer the production orders with a configuration if you are using the industry-specific enhancement IS-MP (industry solution for Mill Products / SAP for Discrete Industries and Mill Products (DIMP)), and are using materials that are subject to batch management. Here, the system copies characteristic values that deviate from the product master also in the case of product variants.

If you do not use DIMP, you can use the following functions:

  • You can use CDP in the make-to-stock segment in SAP APO by removing the configuration of orders before their transfer to SAP ERP.

  • You can restrict the orders per location and ATP category before the configuration is removed.

End of the note.

If you are using an industry solution, the system copies additional characteristics that are unknown to SAP APO when configurations are created with CDP characteristics. In make-to-order production, SAP APO characteristics without value assignments are enriched with those from the sales order item in the ERP system.

Example Example

SAP APO transfers an order in the individual customer segment to the IS-MP ERP system. The material number of the order to be created is different than the number of the sales order. SAP APO transfers the Length characteristic with a value of 100; the Surcharge characteristic is not SAP APO-relevant and is therefore not transferred to the ERP System. In the sales order, however, the characteristic has a value assignment. The new configuration inherits this value assignment from the sales order.

End of the example.

All characteristics must therefore always have value assignments in SAP APO, as they are otherwise overwritten with values in the SAP ERP system.

The following table summarizes the transfer logic:

If handled in batches:

As the SAP ERP planned order cannot have its own configuration, orders with CDP characteristics are created in SAP ERP as production orders. Technically, in the case of a value assignment to input or output nodes, this means that the conversion checkbox is selected. In turn, this means that such orders never exist as planned orders in SAP ERP. Using a Customizing setting, however, you can ensure that only orders with conversion indicators are transferred to SAP ERP. To do this, in Customizing for SAP APO, choose   Supply Chain Planning   Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS)   Global Settings   Maintain Global Parameters and Defaults  . Under Create/change orders, Transfer to OLTP in-house production, choose Transfer Only for Orders with Conversion Indicator. For more information, see Transferring Orders to the SAP R/3 System

You can create rules in characteristics propagation of PPM plans to make characteristics-dependent deletions of components or operations from the maximum explosion (see Define Rules in PPM Plans). These are then also deleted from the SAP ERP order. A parallel maintenance of object dependencies in the ERP system is therefore not a good idea.

CDP characteristic values transferred from SAP APO cannot be changed in SAP ERP.

Activities

If you do not use DIMP, you can do the following:

  • To remove the configuration of orders before their transfer to SAP ERP, in Customizing for SAP SCM choose   Integration with SAP Components   Integration via APO Core Interface (CIF)   Application-Specific Settings and Enhancements   Settings for Publication of Characteristics of Transactional Data   Remove Configuration Before Transfer to ERP  .

  • To restrict the orders per location and ATP category before the configuration is removed, in Customizing for SAP SCM choose   Integration with SAP Components   Integration via APO Core Interface (CIF)   Application-Specific Settings and Enhancements   Settings for Publication of Characteristics of Transactional Data   BAdI: Adding Exception for Removing Configuration  .
