Define Rules in PPM Plans
Object dependencies are not integrated in production process model plans. You control the selection of desired components using rules that you define in the characteristics propagation.
You can define rules for the following components of the PPM plan:

The term component refers to all elements of the PPM plan.
Component |
Rules for |
PPM plan |
Operations |
Transaction |
Activity Setup groups and setup key |
Activity |
Logical component Modes (if activity can be carried out on different resources) |
Logical component |
Products (if more alternative components were defined for a component in the R/3 system) |
There are two types of rule definitions that are differentiated by how they execute internal processing:
· The rule definition for activities, operations, modes, and logical components is selection by restriction. In other words, this rule determines which modes and logical components are not included in the order.
· The rule definition for alternative components, setup key, and setup group is selection by prioritization. This means that the rule specifies a sequence to control which product, setup group, or setup key is to be considered first for the order.
You have assigned classes to the superordinate elements in a PPM plan and have defined a characteristics propagation (the Set Value Assgmt indicator was set).

1. Choose the details for an element of the PPM plan on the overview screen for the characteristics propagation.
2. Choose Rules in the Details of Component area.
3. On the following screen, enter a number for the rule on the Rules tab page.
4. You can define rules for dependent objects depending on the what element of the PPM plan you selected.
Call up the input help for the objects and choose the object for which you would like to define a rule.

In SAP APO, you specify a supplement via an input help for the names of the objects. If you specify the name directly, the system will reject the entry if the SAP APO-specific description is missing.
5. Enter a description for the rule (such as Only When Green).
6. Choose the Requirements tab.
Enter the characteristic values for which the components are to be selected.
7. After you have maintained all the rules, go back to the overview screen.
