Object documentation Area Page Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Definition

A portal pages that groups all applications that belong to a particular business area.

The page comprises a pictogram that represents the area and a short description for each application (service). Hyperlinks on this page enable your employees to call the relevant applications.

Use

In the standard system, area pages are defined for the business areas of the various components. You can define your own area pages, or adjust existing ones.

Structure

An area page is composed of the following subobjects:

     Pictogram

This is the same image that is displayed for the individual area on the corresponding area group page.

     Service link text

Service link texts are the names of the individual applications. They are formatted as hyperlinks and call the applications.

The service link text can also be displayed on the area group page provided that you have defined the service as a quick link.

Note

You can highlight a service link text if you want to emphasize a particular application. To do this, specify in the service definition that this application is to be highlighted. In this way, you can draw employees’ attention to an application that they can use during a particular period only, for example.

Caution

To include the individual applications in the area page, you have to specify a URL of the portal content directory page (PCD page) for each resource. The system calls the relevant application via the PCD page. You must specify a PCD page for all resources.

You enter the URL of the PCD page in the following IMG activity: Cross-Application Components ® Homepage Framework ® Resources ® Define Resources.

The field in which you enter the URL of the PCD page holds lines of a maximum of 255 characters. Any additional characters are cut off and are irrecoverable. If the URLs of your PCD page are longer than 255 characters, you can start a new line in the input field and enter the remaining characters of the URL in the new line.  The system then correctly assembles the individual lines.

     Short application description

This text explains in brief the ways in which the application can be used. The system displays this description below the hyperlink.

     Long area description

This is a longer explanatory text that contains further information about an area.

You can store this description in a Customizing table or as an HTML file, which you enter as a resource in Customizing for the Self-Services Homepage. SAP recommends you store the description as an HTML file because you cannot format the text in the Customizing table. For more information, see Store a Long Area Description.

     One or more subareas

Subareas enable you to structure extensive business areas clearly according to units. In this case, you assign each application of an area to one of the subareas. In this way, you group together applications of a similar content. The names of the subareas are displayed as the headers of these groups on the area page.

For an example, see Example: Area Page (ESS).

In addition to the mandatory subobjects, the following optional subobjects can also appear on the area page:

Dynamic links

Service groups

Higher-level and lower-level services
