Displaying and Managing Messages
You use this function to search for all messages that were received or sent in the selected component, and all messages where errors occurred during processing.

The Integration Server component comprises both the central Integration Engine and the central Adapter Engine.
● To get an overview of the current status of message processing, choose Database (Overview) and select the required component.
● To select archived messages, choose Archive and select the required component.
● If you select an indexed component, you can perform an index-based message search (see Message Search Using Index). To do this, choose Index and select the required component.
You have started the Runtime Workbench, are in message monitoring, and have chosen the required component.
● To display the messages for the selected component, first choose Display.
You can leave the default settings as they are or enter filter criteria to search for particular messages.
● To restrict the number of selected messages, choose the desired value from the Maximum Number dropdown list box.
Then, choose Start. The system lists the selected messages.
● To update the message display, choose Update.
● To display more information about a particular message, select the message and choose Details.
The system displays the message details in a separate window. The contents and selection options of this window vary according to the type of the selected component (Integration Engine or Adapter Engine):
Integration Engine:
○ Message data
The message data provides all available information about a message in the form of a table.
○ Message content
By default, message content is displayed. It corresponds to the individual display of the message in the monitoring of the Integration Engine.

You can use the key combination Ctrl+F to search for terms in the message content.
Accessibility users can use this function by calling transaction SXI_SHOW_MESSAGE in SAP GUI for Windows and entering the ID of the message.
○ Inbound Adapter
This tab page is only displayed if the inbound message originates from an IDoc adapter. It goes to the message monitor of the IDoc adapter.
○ Outbound Adapter
This tab page is only displayed if the outbound message is going to an IDoc adapter. It goes to the message monitor of the IDoc adapter.
○ Queue Monitor
This tab page is only displayed for asynchronously processed messages. It goes to the qRFC monitor for monitoring the queues involved.
If corresponding data exists for the selected message, this option takes you to the end-to-end monitoring instance view for the processing of this message.
If corresponding end-to-end information for a message is indicated as being Available, you can also go directly from the list of displayed messages to the end-to-end monitoring instance view.
Adapter Engine:
○ Audit log
This option displays the audit log for the selected message as the default.
○ Message data
The message data provides all available information about a message in the form of a table.
○ Message content
For XI messages, the version of a message is displayed, as well as the envelope or payload for this version.
For other messages, only the message itself is displayed.

You can use the key combination Ctrl+F to search for terms in the message content.
○ End-to-end monitoring
If corresponding data exists for the selected message, this option takes you to the end-to-end monitoring instance view for the processing of this message.
If corresponding end-to-end information for a message is indicated as being Available, you can also go directly from the list of displayed messages to the end-to-end monitoring instance view.
○
Message Security
(only for messages with details for security; see also
Message-Level
Security in the SAP NetWeaver Security Guide).
The system displays the security agreements for the selected message as well as the certificates used.
The displayed security agreements contain details about the partner profile and other settings for non-repudiation and encryption.
The displayed values for the certificates used are used to uniquely identify these certificates and the private key used.
The Persist Until field displays how long the message was stored in the database before archiving. The Archiving Directory field displays the directory in which the message was archived. This field remains empty as long as the time entered in the Persist Until field is in the future.
To archive
messages, you must have started the corresponding archiving session
beforehand. Messages are then archived using
XML-based
archiving. The monitor of this archiving function enables you to monitor
the archiving sessions used. You can then restart archiving sessions with
errors.
○ Adapter Details (only for messages that have been processed by the RNIF adapter)
This option displays adapter-specific detailed data for the selected message.
● To display the versions of a particular message, select the message and choose Versions.
The versions of the selected message are displayed. You can select one version and display Details for it.

This option is only available if you have selected the Integration Server as the component.
● To edit a message, select it and choose Message Editor.

You can only use the message editor for asynchronous messages with errors that can be restarted. You can only call the message editor if you have sufficient authorization. The message editor is not available for the Adapter Engine.
For more information about the message editor, including availability and usage, see Editing Messages.
● To select messages that reference a specific message, select the message and choose Referencing Messages.
This action also activates the filter.
● To select messages that are referenced by a specific message, select the message and choose Referenced Message.
This action also activates the filter.
● To process messages with errors again, choose Repeat.

To do this, you require the relevant authorization on the selected component and you may have to enter your logon data.
● To cancel the processing of messages with errors, choose Cancel.

To do this, you require the relevant authorization on the selected component and you may have to enter your logon data.
● To process or cancel several messages simultaneously, choose Multiple Selection On.
You can now select multiple messages and repeat or cancel processing.

Not all messages with errors can be processed again, or canceled manually. This depends on the type of error.
● To display log entries for messages that were not generated at the Adapter Engine inbound channel and thus not persisted, choose Error Log.
The error log provides information about messages that were received using adapters, but that have not reached the Adapter Engine.

The error log is only available if you have selected an Adapter Engine as the component.
