Function documentation Creating a New Object  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You use this function to create a new object and then edit it further in the object editor.

Prerequisites

A software component version with a namespace must exist before you can create an object in the Integration Repository. For information about the procedure for importing software component versions and creating namespaces, see Importing Software Component Versions.

Features

You specify the following information in the Create Object dialog:

·        Object Type

For a list of available object types, see Navigation Area (Integration Repository) and Navigation Area (Integration Directory).

·        Object Key

Objects Keys in the Integration Repository

The object key for Integration Repository objects comprises the following:

·        Name

Enter the name manually. The name of an object is not language-specific and is unique within a namespace.

Note the following restrictions when naming objects:

¡        The name length is limited to 120 characters.

¡        The first character must be a letter (upper or lower case).

¡        The other characters must be letters (upper or lower case), numbers (0 to 9), or the underscore (_) character.

¡        Blanks are not permitted.

Recommendation

SAP recommends that you adhere to Upper Camel Case (UCC) notation when you name objects. This notation does not use blanks to separate parts of names; instead it only uses a switch from lowercase to uppercase letters (for example, CheckFlightSeatAvailability).

Use British English for the individual parts of the name.

·        Namespace

·        Software component version

Objects Keys in the Integration Directory

The object key for Integration Directory objects is dependent on the object type.

See also:

For more information, see Object Key for Configuration Objects.

Note

In the case of collaboration profile objects (object types communication party, service, and communication channel), you can specify a name (as part of the object key). The same restrictions and recommendations apply to naming as in design objects (see above).

Activities

...

       1.      Call the function Create Object.

You have the following options:

¡        Choose Object ® New (This graphic is explained in the accompanying text) in the main menu (or the pushbutton Create Object This graphic is explained in the accompanying text).

¡        Position the cursor on a structure node in the navigation area and choose New (This graphic is explained in the accompanying text) from the context menu.

In this case, there are already entries in the Create Object dialog, corresponding to the position of the cursor in the navigation area.

Example

Integration Builder (Integration Directory): You have positioned the cursor on the Service node of a communication party. If you call the function Create Object from the context menu, there are already entries for the object type Service and the party field.

Caution

You cannot create objects of type RFC or IDoc again.

       2.      Enter the required information. Select the object type first and then specify the object key.

An input help  is available to help you specify the key values. To call the input help, use the icon . The value selection offered by the input help may depend on which values have already been defined for the other key attributes.

Example

Integration Builder (Integration Repository): The namespace selection depends on the selected software component version.

       3.      To confirm your entries, choose Create.

This calls the object editor for this object. The specifications that you made when you created the object are displayed in the header. You can edit the object further in the work area of the object editor.

Caution

Once you have confirmed your entries by choosing Create in the Create Object dialog, you can no longer change the object key.
