Class 

Use

You use a variant class to classify the material that you want to edit in the modeling environment for Variant Configuration.

You can also use the class as a starting point for editing the lower-level characteristics, characteristic values, and their dependencies.

Prerequisites

A class must exist before you can work with variant classes in the modeling environment. You cannot use the modeling environment to create variant classes.

Features

You can use the context menus in the model tree and the detailed views to edit the class and the objects below it.

Model Tree

You can launch the wizard for creating a table constraint from the context menu for the class.

The characteristic and characteristic values that belong to the class as well as the object dependency of the characteristics or characteristic values are displayed below the class.

You can use the associated context menus and detailed views to edit these characteristics and characteristic values.

Characteristic

You can use the context menu to

·        Choose class-specific overwriting of the characteristic

·        Launch the wizard for creating object dependencies, procedures, preconditions, or selection conditions for the characteristic

·        Create or assign object dependencies for the characteristic

The detailed view shows the properties of the characteristic:

·        Basic data

·        Object dependencies

·        Values in table format

·        Language-dependent descriptions of the characteristic

·        Additional data

You can assign existing dependencies and documents in the form of additional data to a characteristic. By double-clicking a characteristic in the table, you can go directly to the detailed view for the value in question.

Characteristic Value

You can use the context menu to create or assign object dependencies for the characteristic value.

The detailed view shows the properties of the characteristic value:

·        Basic data

·        Object dependencies

·        Language-dependent descriptions of the value (Texts)

·        Additional data

You can assign existing object dependencies and documents in the form of additional data to a characteristic value.

Detailed View

The detailed view of the class contains:

Tab Page	Function
Basic Data	Basic data and authorization settings
Characteristics	Table showing the characteristics assigned to this class. By double-clicking an entry in the table, you can go directly to the detailed view for the characteristic in question. Alternatively, you can select the characteristic and choose  to display the detailed view.
