Define Default Work Rules
Work rules determine how the system can schedule an employee when calculating or recalculating a schedule. Managers add work rule values to the system for each employee at his or her location. In this procedure, you define default work rules. This allows you to have an implementation with specific work rules or work rule values made available only for specific locations.
You create work rule templates using the default work rules using the procedure Define Work Rule Template Sets.
1. You access the activity through either:
¡ The SAP IMG, by choosing the path SAP IMG ® Customer Relationship Management ® Workforce Deployment ® Retail and Interaction Center Workforce Deployment ® Schedule Settings ® Work Rules ® Define Default Work Rules
¡ The SAP Easy Access menu, enter the transaction code CRM_WFM_SM.
You see the initial page for the site maintenance tool.
i. At Profile Type, display the selections and choose Schedule Rules / Parameters.
ii. At Sub-Type, display the selections and choose Default Work Rule.
iii. Choose Search.
iv. Click Default Work Rule, the topmost node of the tree, with the secondary mouse button and choose Create.
You see the Create New Parameter dialog box.
v. Enter a Profile ID, which is the name of the default work rule definition the system displays in the tree view.
vi. Choose Continue.
2. You see the Define work rules key table where you enter the following information:

Use / Notes |
Default Work Rules ID |

The system uses this for any displays or drop down lists. |

A display-only field. |
Short Description |
A short description of the default work rules definition, used by the system for display purposes. |
This field is automatically populated with text. |
Minimum Value |
The minimum value allowed for the work rule. |
This field is required if you are defining a work rule using a Float Value. If you are defining a True / False or Date Value, leave this field blank. |
Maximum Value |
The maximum value allowed for the work rule. This field is required if you are defining a work rule using a Float Value. |
If you are defining a True / False or Date Value, leave this field blank. |

Define a numeric value for the work rule. |
If the work rule value is numeric, enter the default value for that work rule, otherwise, leave this field blank. |
True? |
Defines the value of the field as True or False. |
If the work rule value is a true / false value, choose this field to define the default value of this work rule as True. When the field is blank and both the Default Value and Date Value fields are empty, the system assumes the work rule is a true / false value with a default value of False. |
Date Value |
The default value for this work rule if it is a date. |
|
Cost Value |
A numeric value that indicates the schedule importance for a scheduling element. |
You use schedule costs to define the importance you want to attach to each scheduling element when the system generates a schedule. |

10. Define the applicability periods for the work rule by completing the following fields in the Define default work rule intervals table.

Applicability periods are valid only for special work rules. They do not apply to standard work rules.
Field |
Description |
Use / Notes |
Start Day |
Defines the first day of the scheduling week for which this work rule applies. |
|
End Day |
Defines the last day of the scheduling week for which this work rule applies. |
End Day must either be the same as Start Day (rendering the work rule valid for that day), or immediately following Start Day (in which case the work rule is valid only for those days). Note that in 24-hour environments, Start Day and End Day must be the same. |
Start Time |
Defines the beginning of the validity period for the work rule. |
Note that this time may not be earlier than the daybreaker, nor can it overlap with the End Time. |
End Time |
Defines the end of the validity period for the work rule. |
Note that this time may not be later than the daybreaker, nor can it overlap with the Start Time. |

When entering the Start Time and End Time, either enter the times into the field or choose input help to display the Choose Time dialog box. When at the Choose Time dialog box, choose the clock icon to switch your entries between 12-hour format (using am and pm) and 24-hour format (where 2:00pm is 14:00). Regardless of the format in which you entered times, the system displays them in 24-hour format. You must enter times in 15-minute granularity. You enter midnight as 00:00 not 24:00.
11. Save your entries.
You have defined default work rules and can assign them to your location. For more information, see Assign Parameter Settings to Locations.
