Use

You can create pure language packages that only contain texts, and no objects, with the portal export function. You can create transport packages for certain languages and import them into another portal installation.

The following types of text are transported:

...

·        Resource Bundles

These are text parts of a PAR archive. During deployment, the code is separated from the text, whereby the resource bundles are extracted from the PAR and stored in the portal as a separate object.

Resource bundles are automatically included in a transport package when you export iViews and when you include dependent objects in the language export. An iView or iView template always refers to a PAR file containing the executable code. In a language export, only the text parts of the PAR file are included in the package. A PAR archive itself is not included in a transport package. A special symbol appears in the export overview for the „Resource Bundle“ object. If you export iViews without dependent objects, no resource bundles are included in the export package. Only the text of the iView that is extracted from the database of the Portal Content Directory is exported.

·        Texts from the database of the Portal Content Directory

The texts of PCD objects (roles, worksets, pages, iViews) are read directly from the database of the PCD.

Prerequisites

You can only import a language package into a portal installation if the corresponding content objects exist in the PCD. You thus cannot import texts for which there are no corresponding content objects.

Procedure

       1.      Perform the steps described in Creating Transport Packages and Filling Transport Packages with Contents.

       2.      Once you have filled your package with content, select Language Transport on the Static Package Content screen using the dropdown list.

       3.      Select the languages to be exported and select Static Content again in the dropdown list in order to return to the previous screen.

       4.      Select Export Language Information Only. If you want to include all dependent objects, select Include all objects on which the exported objects depend. If you are exporting iViews, the resource bundles of the corresponding PAR files are automatically included in the export package.

       5.      Choose Export.

The export preview is displayed. Add the string „language“ to the suggested name for the EPA archive, for example, so that you immediately see that the file only contains text.

       6.      Start the export as described in Performing an Export.

       7.      Perform the import as described in Importing EPA Archives.

Further Information

You can also assign permissions for resource bundles. See also Transports and Permissions.
