Performing an Export
A preview of the objects to be exported, including the status information (e.g. “available”), is displayed. You can exclude certain objects from the export and then start the export.
You created a transport package and filled it with content.
The following functions are offered on the screen for the export preview:
Function |
Description |
List of the objects available for the export |
Dependent objects also appear in the list (e.g. all objects contained in a role). |
Status display |
The status of each object is displayed (e.g. the availability of objects). |
Exclude |
You can remove certain objects from the export process with Exclude. |
Reset |
You can restore the original state of the export preview. |
Browse |
With Export to, you display where the package will be exported to. The predefined export directory of the server is displayed. With Browse you can search for a sub-directory of the given export directory on the server and select it with Select. |

Note that objects belonging to the SAP namespace do not appear in the export preview, even if you included them in the package. To protect the objects delivered by SAP, these objects are not included in packages and therefore cannot be imported again. This procedure prevents for example newer versions of SAP objects from being overwritten by older versions. See also Protection of Objects During Import and Export.
To start the export:
...
1. Check the suggested export directory. With Browse you can search for a sub-directory of the given export directory on the server and select it with Select.
2. The name of the package is automatically entered as file name with extension EPA. The file name also contains a version number.
3. You can start the export with Start Export. A new screen appears in which you can see the status of the export. The status is updated automatically. You can also stop the export prematurely with Stop Export. You can also download the export files when the export has finished.
4.
During the export,
a log file is created as an XML file. This XML file can be monitored with the
CCMS tool and displayed with the Log Viewer. For more information about portal
monitoring see
Monitoring Techniques
and Logging.
For information about configuring log files see Configuring Transport.

Note that objects can only be exported if they are not locked. If there is a single locked object in the package, the entire package cannot be exported. See also Lock Mechanism During Import and Export.
Once the export has finished, you can check if the objects were correctly exported using the log with the status information. Every successfully exported object has status OK. Errors during the export are also displayed.
After a successful export, the package is stored in the corresponding export directory on the server in EPA format. The EPA archive can be imported again (e.g. into the production system). For more information about importing, see Importing EPA Archives.
You can also download the transport package to the client. To do this, select Download Export File on the screen for the export status.
