Dip Reading Management
Use
Oil companies use dip readings to calculate stock levels of bulk fuels within the service station network. You can use this data to correct current stock levels. For more information on stock management, see
Inventory Management.
Dip reading management: overview

SSR allows you to:
- Define storage objects at the business location level
- Receive dip reading data from locations
- Maintain dip reading data manually
- Process errors that occur in the dip reading upload process
- Use dip reading data to create goods movements
- Display dip readings and differences between book and physical stock
Prerequisites
In Customizing for the Industry Solution Oil & Gas (Downstream), you must define at least one
Processing Profile by choosing SSR ® Basic Settings ® Define processing profile.
Features
SSR provides the following:
- Storage object definitions per location. For more information, see
Creating Storage Object Characteristics for Business Locations.
- Interface for dip readings upload. Intermediate documents (IDocs) or BAPIs can be used to transfer dip reading data from business locations to the SAP Oil & Gas System. For more information, see
Interfaces to External Systems.
- Manual update of dip readings, if no electronic update is available
- Dip reading error maintenance. A dialog transaction allows you to analyze, authorize blocked, and reprocess rejected dip readings.
- Dip reading history. You can use a dip reading history report to display data held in the dip reading upload tables.
- Stock adjustment. You can display differences between relative stock and physical stock and correct stock levels accordingly
- Clearing of dip reading data to delete dip readings received from the location in the past. This is only possible for dip readings not already used to create goods movements.
- Business add-ins that allow you to define:
- Checks for dip reading uploads
- Schedules for dip reading uploads
- The calculation used to determine whether differences between book and physical stock are within the defined tolerances
- You can link each business location to the storage location used to record stock levels held at that location, and navigate directly from the business location master record to the corresponding stock overview screen. For more information, see
Object Links.
You can also link individual storage objects to storage locations. For more information, see
Storage Object Specifications.
