The costing run in the R/3 System is available for the periodic costing of a big number of products/materials (for example all materials of one plant). With help of the costing run, the high-performing costing of a great number of materials per collective processing is possible.
Features
You can use the Standard costing run of the R/3 System for AFS materials as well (menu: Product Cost Planning). You can process AFS materials and Standard materials in the same costing run.
You can divide the costing run into phases ‚create costing run‘, ‚select materials‘, explode quantity structure‘, ‚execute costing run‘ and ‚mark/release costing run‘. These phases are the same for both AFS materials and Standard materials.

Phases of the Costing Run
Phase ‚select materials‘ offers all selection possibilities ot the R/3 Standard System (plant, low-level code). You can also select via the AFS season indicator (material master: AFS basic data).
The phases ‚execute, mark and release costing run‘ the system executes at valuation type level for AFS materials with split valuation (see
Definition of Valuation Types). The costing run always processes all valuation types that are defined for a material. A costing is created at material level (valuation type BLANK). The costing results of the valuation types the system releases the the accounting views at valuation type level (see Accounting Data of the Valuation Types). The result of the valuation type BLANK the system releases in the accounting view at material level. With the function materials overview in the list display of the costing run, you can view the created costings. For the better overview, choose a display variant that displays the field valuation type. (Function Current display variant – select field Valuation type).
The explosion of the quantity structure is based on the preference SKU (stock keeping unit) of the respective valuation type.
The valuation type BLANK is costed on the basis of the grid value and the stock category for the costing at material level from the AFS valuation view (material master). If the AFS material is not split valuated, the system costs the material only on basis of the default values from the AFS valuation view. Marking and releasing of the costing result is only executed at material level.
Phase ‚explode quantity structure‘ is only necessary, if the selection was not carried out via all low-level codes in the phase ‚select materials‘. If you have selected only finished materials, you can include the low-level codes (semifinished products) into the selection with help of the quantity structure explosion. Costings are then also created, marked and released for these materials.

Referring to the quantity structure explosion the following AFS-specific features exist for split valuated finished products that have components with deviating dimensions:
The system explodes the BOM on the basis of the stock keeping unit that should be costed. At lower low-level codes only these valuation types are selected that contain at least one stock keeping unit that can be assigned with help of the BOM definition to the preference stock keeping unit of the finished product.
