SAP NetWeaver Information Lifecycle Management (SAP NetWeaver)
enables you to decommission your legacy system with a standardized process that includes the following steps:
Transferring data archived in or extracted from the legacy system to a stand-alone ILM Retention Warehouse system (RW system).
Applying the Retention Management Functions of SAP NetWeaver ILM
to legacy data in the RW system.
Using local reporting function or BW queries to query relevant data for tax auditing and product liability purposes (after uploading data to SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse (SAP BW)
Retaining and destroying data in compliance with legal requirements according to the Retention Management definitions.
The following figure illustrates the transfer of data to the Retention Warehouse system and the data lifecycle management with the Retention Management functions.
Transfer and management in Retention Warehouse of the data from a legacy system that is to be decommissioned.
You have made the Customizing settings that are necessary for the use of ILM Retention Warehouse.
For more information, see: Preparing to Use the Retention Warehouse System
In the legacy system, you have archived or extracted all the data needed to create an exact image of this data in Retention Warehouse.
For more information, see: Preparing and Executing the Extraction of Information in Legacy Systems
In the Retention Warehouse system, provide the audit areas and the ILM policies for the further lifecycle management of the data to be transferred.
For more information, see: Preparing Lifecycle Management of Legacy Data in the RW system
Transfer the archived transaction data and master data as well as context data from the legacy system to the Retention Warehouse system. Apply the retention rules and store the legacy data, which has an expiration data, in the ILM store.
For more information, see: Transferring Data from the Legacy System to the ILM Retention Warehouse
Enable the retrieval of legacy data in the RW system (for example, for the tax auditing or product liability purposes)
For more information, see: Evaluating Data Stored in Retention Warehouse
Destroy the data on which there is no legal hold, and whose retention period has expired, according to the ILM rules.
