Transferring Data from the Legacy System to the ILM Retention Warehouse
You transfer the data archived in or extracted from the legacy system that is to be decommissioned to a central ILM Retention Warehouse system (RW system). This is where you convert the data according to ILM rules and store it in the ILM store. By doing so, you can use the Retention Management functions of SAP NetWeaver ILM
to manage the further lifecycle of the legacy data.
To store the data from legacy systems for the required periods and to manage the lifecycle in the RW system, you need to convert the archive files according to ILM rules. During ILM-compliant conversion of an archive file, the system writes every grouping of data objects that results from the ILM rules to a new archive file. In this way, a new archive structure that corresponds to the conditions in the ILM rules is created in the ILM store.
You use the checksums that you create before and after ILM conversion and storage of the archive files to determine whether the transferred data is available in the ILM store in its entirety.
The following figures describe all the steps that you need to execute in the Retention Warehouse system to receive an overview of the information from the legacy system.

Transaction ILM_TRANS_ADMIN
contains all steps for transferring archive files and snapshots from the legacy system to the RW system.
For more information, see: Transfer of Archived Data to Retention Warehouse
Note
In the menu of the ILM Retention Warehouse Cockpit
for Administrators, you can call up the required steps individually. You call the above transaction with parameters so that you can execute each step directly.
You have the following options:
Transfer all transaction data and snapshots, including the administration data from the file system, from the legacy system to the RW system.
Leave all transaction data and snapshots in the file system of the legacy system. Then use an RFC connection to convert them according to ILM rules and store them in the ILM archive store of the RW system. In this case, transfer only the administration date in the first step.
Convert the SN_META
file according to ILM rules and store the converted file in the ILM archive store.
You use report RIWP_LOAD_REPOS
to fill the repository from the file SN_META
, which has already been stored.
The repository contains information from the legacy system (for example DDIC information) to which the functions of Retention Warehouse have access.
Create checksums before you convert the information so that you can check the conversion for completeness.
For more information, see: Checksums
Convert the data that is archived in snapshot-form and store the converted files in the ILM archive store.
Convert the archived transaction data and store the converted files in the ILM archive store.
Create checksums after you convert the information (application of retention rules) so that you can check the conversion for completeness.
For more information, see: Checksums
Use the report ARLNK_MOVE_META_REMOTE
that exists in the legacy system to copy the link information (TOAL
) from ArchiveLink attachments and the information about Customizing for Content Repository.
For more information, see:
Use a report from the Retention Warehouse system to propagate the expiration dates to the ArchiveLink references in an ILM-certified storage system. You will find this report in the menu for the role SAP_BC_ILM_ARCHIVELINK
.
For more information, see: Unstructured Documents in a Decommissioning Environment
If necessary, you can upload the missing files to Retention Warehouse without having to execute the extraction in the legacy system again.
