Definition

As for reports, labels can consist of a number of text areas that can be output in more than one language for data with reference to specifications. You can also create labels without reference to a specification.

Note

In general, you can assign a report template that contains no specification symbols to any report category (for example, material safety data sheet or label) via a generation variant. A label represents only one example for reports with or without a reference to a specification.

Use

The SAP component Product Safety enables you to output data for value assignment types in more than one language. For this purpose, you use a repeating group of the type Validity area and language (see Repeating Group Types and Example: Repeating Group of Type G). All languages that are based on a single-byte character set are supported (see Determining Fonts).

Using a Wizard you can define labels of various sizes (see WWI: Using the Label Wizard). If you created a report template with the Wizard and call the label from report management or the report information system, the SAP System loads the Labeling Tool. The Labeling Tool provides different standard sizes for display and printing purposes. In addition, you can define your own formats with the help of the Labeling Tool. (See Using the Labeling Tool.)

Note

Labels for which the Labeling Tool is loaded cannot be exported, sent, or printed out via the R/3 spool.

If you have not used the Label Wizard, Microsoft Word is opened directly.

You can use Microsoft Word 97 functions to define text areas, for example, using text boxes and tables. The automatic character sizing function in the Windows Wordprocessor Integration (WWI) program guarantees that the font size is adjusted to optimally fit the text area. Using the functions in Word you can also define frames and create colored printouts.

Printer selection allows you to print out labels at different sites.

Report templates that contain no specification symbols are available in the report information system after they are assigned to a generation variant. The reports are treated as released reports, independent of which initial status was defined for the generation variant. See Search and Data Output in the Report Information System and Using the Report Information System.

You generate labels that contain specification symbols from the specification management hit list and release them in report management (see Report Editing).
