Use

You can use the Alert Monitor to monitor the response times of a specific client, a specific transaction, or a transaction by client.

Use this function to monitor a service level agreement with which service provides are under contract to provide their customers with SAP services within a certain response time. The service level agreement could, for example, be based on the response times in a client that the customer of the service level agreement uses, or on response times of critical transactions.

Note

As of SAP Basis 4.6C, the Alert Monitor contains the monitor Transaction-Specific Dialog Monitor in the SAP CCMS Monitors for Optional Components monitor set, with which you can monitor the response times in specific clients or transactions.

You can either use this monitor, or, as we recommend, use the following procedure to create your own monitor.

Procedure

Which client and/or which transaction is to be monitored?

  1. Call Transaction SE16. The system displays the screen Data Browser: Initial Screen. Enter the table name ALTRAMONI and choose Enter (This graphic is explained in the accompanying text ).
  2. The system displays the screen Data Browser: Table ALTRAMONI: Selection Screen. Choose Execute (This graphic is explained in the accompanying text) .
  3. Choose Create (This graphic is explained in the accompanying text) and enter the transaction and/or client to be monitored.
  4. Note

To monitor all transactions in a particular client, enter * as the transaction name (TCODE field) and specify the client (MON_CLIENT field). To monitor a particular transaction in all clients, enter the transaction code and * as the client name.

  5. Enter a meaningful name of your choice for the monitoring object (field MO_NAME). The name is displayed in the monitoring tree that you define later in transaction RZ20.
  6. Specify an MTE class (MTECLASS field).

Recommendation

We recommend that you use the same name for the MTE class and the monitoring object. This simplifies selection by client or transaction in the monitor definition.

Use the same MTE class name for clients or transactions that you want to display in the same monitor.

  1. Always specify <CURRENT> as the SERVER-ID. Save your entries.

You can now use the Transaction-Specific Dialog Monitor to monitor the dialog response times of the specified clients and monitors. If you want to use your own monitor to display the data, follow the procedure below:

Creating a monitor with the response times of the monitored transactions/clients

  1. Call transaction RZ20 and choose Extras ® Activate Maintenance Function.
  2. Create a new monitor definition in the monitor set of your choice, or edit an existing monitor.
  3. Choose Create Node(This graphic is explained in the accompanying text) . In the Create Node window, select the Rule node radio button, and choose Continue.
  4. The system displays the Edit Rule Node dialog screen. Choose the CCMS_GET_MTE_BY_CLASS rule, and choose Continue.
  5. Enter the SAP system to be monitored in the R3System field.
  6. Enter one or both of the following MTE classes in the MTEClass field:
