WWI: Compressing Blank Fields

Prerequisites

You have started the version of Microsoft Word modified by WWI (see Starting and Closing WWI).

You want to stop data being output if a particular value is missing.

Procedure

Use the cursor to select the area for which you want to define blank compression.

Note

For blank compression within Word tables that extend over a number of cells, you should note the following:

If the blank compression extends over whole table rows, the respective table cells are suppressed completely:

If blank compression only encompasses parts of table rows, only the contents of the enclosed cells are suppressed. The cells themselves are retained:

Choose WWI ® Insert Blank Compression.

The Blank Compression dialog box appears.

The symbols in the selected text are displayed in the left section.

Position the cursor on each symbol in turn for which the system must find a value so that the entire selected text is also output, and choose the Copy function.

If you want to include more symbols as a condition, choose Add in the dialog box.

The symbol properties dialog box appears. Here, you can use the Browse function to select other symbols.

Note

You can change all symbols displayed as a condition in the Blank Compression dialog box in the control symbols area by positioning the cursor on the symbol required and choosing Modify or Delete.

In the blank compression dialog box in the operator area, specify whether the conditions entered are to be linked with AND (*) or OR (+). See also Blank Compression.

If you want to define an ELSE branch, set the Include ELSE indicator. See also Blank Compression.

This syntax means:

If no value is found for the symbol GESTRILXFLG, the value for the symbol ESTRILXFLG is suppressed, but the value for the symbol GESTRIDENT is output.

If a value is found for the symbol GESTRILXFLG, the value for the symbol ESTRILXFLG is output, but the value for the symbol GESTRIDENT is suppressed.

Choose OK.

Word enters blank compression in your template according to the conditions defined.

Note

Blank compression has the report symbol type 13.

If you want to edit blank compression subsequently, position the cursor within the symbol and choose WWI ® Edit Group.
