Single-Item, Multi-Level Planning

Use

In single-item, multi-level planning the BOM is exploded and dependent requirements are generated for assemblies and components. To cover the dependent requirements, these components are also planned. If the components also have BOMs, these are also exploded and the components are planned. This process is repeated until all levels of the BOM are exploded and planned.

If there are components in the BOM that are procured by stock transfer or production in another plant, then in single-item, multi-level planning the other plant is used for further planning.

Features

For single-item, multi-level planning you have the following options:

In the planning run, the planning results are automatically written to the database.

However, you can check the result for all planned materials directly after the planning. Select the field Display material list in the initial screen of the planning run. The system then issues a material list, from which you can call up the planning result for each material. If you make changes to the planning result of a material, you can repeat the planning for all dependent materials directly from the planning result. For more information, see Working with the Material List .

The results are only written to the database if you have checked and (if necessary) changed them. There are two procedures for this:

The planning with a display of results occurs if you have selected the field Display results before they are saved. Here, the materials to be planned are displayed as breakpoints and you can control at which materials the planning is stopped. The planning result is displayed for as many breakpoints as you want and is used for continuing the planning. The changes have an immediate effect on the following planning. For more information, see Working with the Planning Result .

When planning in simulation mode, all materials of a BOM are planned completely in the main memory, without the planning results being written to the database. The planning result can be tested for each material. Problems in lower-level BOM levels are displayed on a higher-level or on the finished-product level and can be corrected immediately. Only after saving is the total planning result written to the database. For more information, see Simulation Mode and Plan in Simulation Mode .
