Out-of-Sequence Check Processing

Scope of Functions

From Release 4.6C forward, off-cycle payroll runs may be executed with a pay date that is earlier than the pay date of the last completed payroll run. This change in functionality primarily affects bonus, correction, and year-end adjustment payroll runs.

For example, prior to Release 4.6C, if you ran payroll on May 25 for pay period 10, with May 30 as the pay date, then the earliest possible pay date for subsequent off-cycle payroll runs would have been May 30. To illustrate, if an employee left your enterprise on May 27 without providing appropriate notice, and if you are required by law or company policy to pay all outstanding wages immediately as a payment in advance, then the earliest possible pay date for that payment would have been May 30. Now, using the new functionality in Release 4.6C that supports out-of-sequence checks, you could select May 27 as the pay date in the scenario described above.

In order to support this functionality, additional fields have been added to cumulation tables CRT, TCRT, and UTIPS. Moreover, Release 4.6C features a new technical cumulation table, GRCUM, which supports garnishments requirements for out-of-sequence check processing. For detailed information on these changes, refer to the release note on the new structure for cumulation tables CRT, TCRT, UTIPS and GRCUM.

Effects on Existing Data

In order to use this functionality, you must run a conversion program to render all past payroll results compatible with the new structure of cumulation tables. The conversion program will use the existing CRT values as the basis for populating the four new fields in CRT, TCRT, and UTIPS.

Effects on Data Transfer

For detailed information on the conversion process, refer to the release note on conversion of payroll results for out-of-sequence check processing.

Effects on System Administration

Once you have completed the conversion process, the size of the payroll cluster will increase, since each record in the cluster will reflect the history of cumulation for the previous six months.

Effects on Customizing

Before you may issue out-of-sequence checks, you must perform the following three steps in the Payroll Implementation Guide (IMG):

For detailed information on the new configuration tables that enable out-of-sequence check processing, refer to the release note on new Data Dictionary cumulation tables .
