You cannot delete a variable that is used elsewhere in the system (for example, in a set). You can display where a variable is used in the system using the Variable directory utility. On the selection screen, you set the Display usage indicator. For more information, see Displaying a Variable Directory .

If you want to delete a large number of variables, it is recommended that you use the Non-used variables utility to delete the variables. For more information, see Displaying and Deleting Non-Used Variables

1. On the Report Painter screen, choose Report Writer ® Variable ® Delete.

The Delete Variable: Initial Screen appears.

2. In the Variable field, enter the name of the variable you want to delete.
3. Choose Enter.

A dialog box displays a warning message.

4. To delete the variable, choose Yes.
