Component documentationData Collection (DC) Locate this document in the navigation structure

You can use this component to collect production process-related data, entered against SFC numbers, work centers, or resources in a POD.

Data is collected using user-defined data parameters assigned to data collection (DC) groups (see Data Parameter and DC Group).

Example Example

You can collect the following types of information:

  • Paste height on a circuit board

  • Temperature of a resource, for example an oven, when a board goes into or comes out of the resource

  • Thickness of a circuit board or a component on a circuit board

  • Humidity or temperature of a work center or work area

End of the example.

For more information, see Data Collection for SFC Numbers and Standalone Data Collection.

Implementation Considerations

The manual data collection functions are primarily applicable to low to medium volume discrete manufacturing. Data collection for high-speed and high-volume discrete manufacturing is available through the use of web services and the equipment integration.

Integration

Reports

You can use Data Collection Definition Report and Data Collection Results Report to obtain information about defined data parameters, DC groups, and the collected data (see Data Collection Definition Report and Data Collection Results Report)

SAP ME ERP Integration

If you use the SAPMEINT component, see Transfer of Batch and Batch Characteristic Data.

Features

Data Collection provides the following:

  • Ability to collect data multiple times

  • Ability to validate collected data against predefined limits (minimum and maximum values) and ensure that all required data has been collected (see Data Collection Limits Check and Open Data Collections Check).

When a DC group fails validation tests, the system can initiate logging of a nonconformance (see Nonconformance (NC))

  • Ability to send collected data to the SPC system for processing and analysis (see Statistical Process Control).

You can review the statistical analysis of previously collected data values via the SPC Display activity (see SPC Display).

  • Controlled capability for editing the collected data (see Data Collection Edit)

Process Flow

The following figure illustrates the primary flow of the overall Data Collection process.
