Object documentationBasic Catalog

Directory of catalog items upon which a specific system in the form of a hierarchical structure is based.

In nursing, as in the areas of allergies, lab values, vital signs, and diagnoses, there is a variety of catalog-based terminologies and classifications for the structured entry of nursing services or nursing diagnoses.

Using these basic catalogs you can comprise catalog items into a hierarchical structure according to various criteria. A user can compile his favorite items from a basic catalog. These can then be used in various applications as a data basis for selection helps.

Basic catalogs have the following characteristics:

  • Multi-language

  • Institution-independent; the basic catalog set defines the reference to an institution

  • No validity; the basic catalog set defines the validity

  • Name (128 characters)

  • Description (255 characters)

Structure

A basic catalog consists of the basic catalog header as well as basic catalog items:

  • The basic catalog header contains the data which refer to the entire catalog. This includes, for example, the name of the catalog and its unique ID.

  • Basic catalog items are the entries of a basic catalog. You differentiate between group items and individual items. You can assign one or more individual items to a group item. This assignment defines the structure, or hierarchy of the catalog items within the basic catalog.

Every basic catalog is assigned to a basic catalog category. The General Catalog basic catalog category is the basic class. Further catalog types are defined for catalogs with deviating properties, i.e. catalogs with items which permit specific attributes or connection types. For more information, see Basic Catalog Category.

Basic catalogs are grouped in basic catalog sets. The basic catalog sets create the reference to an institution and an application and define which catalogs are valid over what period of time for the corresponding application. For more information, see Basic Catalog Sets.

Integration

You can use basic catalogs in the following applications:

  • Nursing Process Documentation

    • Nursing procedure catalog, nursing goal catalog, nursing diagnosis catalog

    • NCPS reasons catalog, NCPS procedures catalog (only relevant in Germany for Nursing Complex Procedure Score (NCPS - NKMS).

  • Vital signs (vital sign catalog)

  • Allergy documentation (allergy catalog)
