Basis catalog categories for vital signs special versions of the General Catalog basic catalog category for the management of vital sign master data.

 

In order to be able to enter vital signs you require basic catalogs with special versions of basic catalog categories. The system administrator manages the Clinical Measurements (CLIM) basic catalog category as a main catalog and supplements this with the help of catalog assignment definitions with attributes from the so-called property catalogs. These are the Value Ranges (CLIR), Fixed Values (CLIF) and Additional Information (CLIA) basic catalog categories. You assign to the Vital Signs work area by assigning the main catalog to the basic catalog set.

Structure

For the Clinical Measurements: Vital Signs component the following basic catalog categories exist:

  • Clinical Measurements (CLIM) basic catalog category, main catalog

    This basic catalog category contains the measurements to be documented.

  • Value Ranges (CLIR) basic catalog category, property catalog

    This basic catalog category contains the normal, warning and extreme/alarm ranges for the measurements. It contains additional display ranges for i.s.h.med charting.

    The definition of numerical value ranges enables the interpretation of entered or transferred values within the application. The system compares the numerical values with the assigned value ranges and, if these differ from the norm, flags these in the database table with an abnormality indicator. The system graphically highlights measurements documented in the application which deviate from the norm.

  • Fixed Values (CLIF) basic catalog category, property catalog

    The fixed value catalog fills the input help for the measured values in the Value field in the table for vital sign entry. The catalog items in the fixed value catalog are "dimensionless" content without a specific data type or measurement unit and are available for selection in the application as text values.

    The system administrator can define fixed values in the name of the catalog item as number values, which are then used as "character strings" in the application to preset from the selection help. Such "number-character strings" from the selection help behave in the application in the same way as a manually typed number value. A typical example here would be a numerical pain scale.

  • Additional Information (CLIA) basic catalog category, property catalog

    You can enter additional information on a documented measurement. The property catalog of the Additional Information basic catalog category fills the input help for the Additional Information field.
