Inheritance of Attribute Values by Subordinate Drugs
The inheritance of attribute values by subordinate drugs represents the transfer of field values or information, such as for example, classifications and agents of a drug, to a subordinate drug (drug of a lower drug level).

Note
Drugs always inherit top to bottom, i.e. from a drug of a higher drug level (e.g. level one) to a drug of a lower level(e.g. level two). Reverse inheritance of attribute values is not planned. If you have defined three drug levels, the system passes on the attributes from the drugs of the highest level to the drugs of the lowest level.
You can use Business Add-In (BAdI) ISHMED_ME_MD_PRC_INHERIT
to customer-specifically determine which attributes should be inherited.
Inheritance always takes place within the assignment of a subordinate drug to a drug of a higher drug level, the assignment of a superordinate drug to a drug of a lower level, or when the assignment is changed.
A dialog box is available in the following functions for selecting the field values or information:
Change Assignments
Delete Assignment
In certain functions (e.g. Create Subordinate Drug) the system automatically executes inheritance (without a user dialog).
Note
Note that in case of some drug information (e.g. references ,drug messages, general parameters, etc.) you can determine in the drug master data whether this information should be inherited by a subordinate drug.
If you change attributes of a superordinate drug, which must or should be inherited by a subordinate drug, the system will automatically transfer the modified values to the subordinate drug. To prevent the inheritance of modified values by subordinate drugs, you should call the Change Assignment
function for the subordinate drug before you change the superordinate drug, and deselect the relevant attribute in the Transfer
column.
Note
You cannot change inherited attribute values (e.g. price types, drug types, general parameters, drug messages, classifications, agents, references, etc.) in the subordinate drug. You must change the attribute values in the superordinate drug and inherit them.
For each drug which can be assigned, the system displays the drug attributes (field values, classifications, references, agents, etc.) which must or can be passed on from a superordinate drug to a subordinate drug in the dialog box for the assignment.
The system flags values that are identical in the superordinate drug and the subordinate drug selected for the assignment, using the icon
(Values Are Identical
) in the Indicator column.
The system flags values that are not identical in the superordinate drug and the subordinate drug selected for the assignment, using the icon
(Values Are Different
) in the Indicator column.
The system flags values that cannot be passed on from the superordinate drug to the subordinate drug using the icon
(Inheritance not Possible
) in the Indicator column.
The system will also use these icons to flag the nodes of the drug or drug attributes (e.g. fields, classifications, etc.). If one of the attribute values contained is flagged with the icon
(Inheritance not Possible
) the corresponding node also displays this icon. This also applies to the icon
(Values Are Different
). Only if all attributes are flagged with the icon
(Values Are Identical
), the corresponding node also displays this icon.
Caution
If an attribute cannot/may not be inherited and is therefore flagged with the icon
(Inheritance not Possible
), you cannot execute the assignment. The system displays an error message.
Select the checkbox for this attribute to deactivate the inheritance of this attribute and be able to create the drug assignment.
For the corresponding drug attribute you can also compare the value of the superordinate drug to be inherited with the current value of the subordinate drug attribute and display the new value for the subordinate drug resulting from the inheritance.
The system preselects the values which can be inherited by the subordinate drug in the Transfer
column. You can deselect the values which should not be inherited by the subordinate drug.
Caution
You cannot deselect values which the system flagged in the Transfer
(Always Transfer
) column. These values must be inherited.
This applies in particular, to the Connection Criteria, which must have the same values when two drugs are assigned.
The definition of intermediate definable drug levels in the customizing of the internal drug catalog in use determines whether, apart from the connection criteria, other values must always be inherited or which values cannot be inherited and, in each case, which values.
The attribute values which the system flags with
(Always Transfer
) are almost identical in the definition of intermediate definable drug levels for generic drugs with package information and for brand drugs. However, it may be the case, for example, that specific fields should not be inherited to brand drugs because they are not necessary for brand drugs. The system flags these attributes (e.g. package size) with the icon with the quick info text Transfer not Necessary
.
This could affect, for example, the following drug attributes:

Package size and package unit
Number of individual packages
Alternative reference dose and unit
Deliver Undivided Dose
indicator
Preparation (e.g. premade, by pharmacy, etc.)
External reference catalog
Furthermore the system determines that some attributes cannot be inherited. There are differences between the definition of intermediate definable drug levels for generic drugs with package information and for brand drugs.
