In the work area you can create or edit the drug master data of a drug.

Furthermore, the work area provides functions for activating, editing assignments, etc. which always refer to the drug currently displayed in the work area.

Prerequisites

In order to be able to create and edit drugs, you must have executed all configuration functions under the Drug Catalog node in the Implementation Guide.

Activities

You can execute the following functions for the drug in the work area:

  • Activate Drug

    In order to be able to use a drug for medication orders, etc. you must activate it. During activation you also determine the period of use.

    • Choose the Activatepushbutton with the quick info text Activate to set the drug in the work area to "Active" status (see Catalog Tab Page).

      The system displays the Activate Drug dialog box.

      The system offers the drug and any other drugs assigned to this one in the drug hierarchy for activation, which are not yet activated.

      Note Note

      When you activate a drug kit, the system will display all drugs of the drug kit, but you can only select the drug kit for activation. The drugs of the drug kit are automatically also selected and cannot be deselected.

    • To check for warnings or errors when changing the status of a selected drug to "Active", double-click the icon in the Change Possible column in the row of the corresponding drug. The system displayd the corresponding warnings or error messages. Select or deselect the checkbox in the Change Status column if you wish or do not wish to execute the status change for a drug.

    • Choose Transfer (Transfer), to activate the selected drugs.

    Once you have activated a drug once, you can no longer change the following information, for example, for this drug:

    • Reference dose and unit

    • Alternative reference dose and unit (if entered)

    • Package size and unit (if entered)

    • Number of individual packages

    • Ingredient assignments

    • Agent assignments

    • Drug category

    • Indiscrete Dose indicator

  • Deactivate Drug

    In order to be able to exclude a drug which is already in use in medication orders, from further use, you must deactivate this drug.

    • Choose the Deactivate pushbutton with the quick info text Deactivate to set the drug in the work area to "Deactivated" status (see Catalog Tab Page).

      The system displays the Deactivate Drug dialog box.

      The system offers the drug and any other drugs assigned to this one in the drug hierarchy which have "Active" status, for deactivation.

    • Enter a reason for the deactivation of the drug.

    • To check for warnings or errors when changing the status of a selected drug to "Deactivated", double-click the icon in the Change Possible column in the row of the corresponding drug. The system displayd the corresponding warnings or error messages. Select or deselect the checkbox in the Change Status column if you wish or do not wish to execute the status change for a drug.

    • Choose Transfer (Transfer), to deactivate the selected drugs.

      Caution Caution

      Note that you cannot deactivate drugs which are entered as ingredients of an active mixed drug. You must first remove the drug from the ingredients of the mixed drug or deactivate the mixed drug.

      Also, you can only deactivate a (subordinate) drug which is assigned to a drug at a higher level, if the subordinate drug is not the only possible drug for a specific purpose at documentation level. If another subordinate drug or ingredient can be documented for this purpose, you can deactivate the subordinate drug.

  • Change assignment

  • Copy drug

    • Select a drug and choose Copy Drug (Copy Drug).

    • In the Copy Drug dialog, copy the code of the new drug to be created and choose Transfer (Transfer).

    When copying the system will transfer all information of the original drug apart from, for example the following data:

    • Drug name

    • Drug description

    • Agent assignments

    • Classification assignments

      Note Note

      With this function the system creates newly created drugs at the same Drug Level of the drug hierarchy, as the drug which you selected as the template for copying.

      When copying, the system will also transfer the assignment to a superordinate drug of the original drug into the newly created drug, but not the assignment of subordinate drugs.

    The system automatically creates copied drugs with the Manually Created indicator.

    You can customer-specifically enhance the copying of a drug using the Business Add-In ISHMED_ME_MD_COPY_DRUG.

  • Delete drug

    Select a drug and choose Delete Drug (Delete Drug) and confirm the deletion of the drug in the subsequently displayed dialog.

    Note Note

    Drugs which are already used as follows cannot be deleted, only deactivated:

    • The drug is already in use in a medication order (ended orders, for example, are also relevant).

    • The drug is already in use in a medication event.

    • The drug is used as an ingredient of another drug.

    • A preparation for the drug is already entered in the system.

    • The drug is already in use in an order template.

  • Display Change Documents

    Choose Change Documents (Change Documents), to access the Display Change Documents for Drug dialog box.

    The system displays the executed changes to the drug in the work area with the user, date and time, old and new values, etc..

  • Show/hide navigation area

    Choose Navigation Area (Navigation Area), to show or hide the navigation area.
