Setting Up the Authorized User for Metadata Extraction

You can set up an authorized user to extract metadata from a source system. Systems included in an SAP Business Data Cloud formation are automatically connected to the catalog, but authorized users aren't set up. Set up an authorized user so the catalog can monitor the system and extract new, updated, or deleted assets.

Prerequisites

To set up or edit the authorized user for a source system, you must have a global role that grants you the following privileges:

  • Data Warehouse General (-R------) - To access SAP Datasphere.

  • Catalog System (-RU-E--) - To edit the authorized user for a source system.

The Catalog Administrator global role and the DW Viewer role template (used directly as a global role) applied together, for example, grant these privileges. For more information, see Privileges and Permissions and Standard Roles Delivered with SAP Datasphere.
Ensure you have the login credentials for the user account of the source system:

Context

Set up and authenticate the authorized user for metadata extraction in the following scenarios:

  • You added the system to an SAP Business Data Cloud formation and need to set up the authorized user.

  • The login credentials of the authorized user for metadata extraction are missing or have changed.

  • The authorized user is no longer active.

Procedure

  1. In the side navigation area, choose (Catalog & Marketplace)Start of the navigation path Next navigation step End of the navigation path (Metadata Extractions).
  2. In the Remote Systems table, select the system you want and choose Edit.
  3. Authenticate the user for metadata extraction.

    • If the authorized user is missing and you're authenticating the user for the first time, choose Authenticate.

    • If you are updating or changing the authorized user, choose Reauthenticate.

    A dialog with instructions on how to authenticate the user for the source system appears. Follow the instructions in the dialog for authenticating the source system user.

    1. In the Authenticate System User dialog, choose (Copy) to copy the link for authenticating the system user.
    2. Open a private browsing window and paste the link in the address bar.
    3. Log on to the source system.
    4. After the source system user is authenticated and you see the confirmation message, close the private browsing window.
    5. When you are back on the Authenticate System User dialog, choose Confirm Authentication.
  4. Back on the Edit System dialog, save your work.

Results

The catalog monitors the source system based on the authorized user's access permissions.

  • If you authenticate the same user, the catalog continues to monitor the source system for new, updated, or deleted assets.

  • If you authenticate a different user, the catalog monitors the source system based on the updated user's access permissions.
