Weighting Factor

Definition

A weighing factor is a value from 0 - 99 that reflects the relative importance of a lower-level (child) entity's priority in determining the priority of its higher-level (parent) entity.

Use

Using the Mode Maintenance tool from the TRM Monitor, you can assign weighting factors to the entities in the priority model . At both task creation and task selection , the system calculates the total priority of a parent entity by:

  1. Converting child entity weighting factors into normalized weightings, being percentages that takes into account the weighting factors of all child entities directly under the one parent

Example Example

You assign the following weighting factors to the route priority entities of task creation:

Priority Entity

Weighting Factor

Distance from source

24

Resource type – handling unit

17

Resource type – working area

39

Resource type - level

27

Total

107

These weighting factors are converted into the following normalized weightings:

Priority Entity

Normalized Weighting

Distance from source

24/107 = 22.4%

Resource type – handling unit

17/107 = 15.9%

Resource type – working area

39/107 = 36.5%

Resource type - level

27/107 = 25.2%

Total

  1. Multiplying each child entity’s priority value by the normalized weighting

  2. Summing the results
