Edit Workflow Definition

Use

You can use the following functions to edit a Workflow definition in the Workflow Builder.

Features

Drag and Drop

You can use Drag&Drop to create a new step. To do so, drag the required step from the object area tray Step types (in the Object screen area) to a step/ outcome or to the navigation area. The new step is inserted according to the positioning rules. In the process, the cursor changes into the Drag&Drop icon for either permitted or not permitted.

Double click

Double-clicking on the various steps and outcomes in the workflow area has different effects:

Double click on

Result

An undefined step or its outcome

A new step is inserted.

A step of any other type

The step definition is opened

Outcome

The description of the outcome can be processed and, depending on the outcome type, additional information is displayed for the outcome.

If you have selected a step or an outcome in the workflow area, double-clicking on a task in the task area will transfer it into the workflow definition as an activity in accordance with the positioning rules.

This function can be used to reformat the layout in the workflow area. Choose Layout.

Menu Functions

The following functions are located in the Extras menu in the Workflow Builder.

  • Workflows of this definition

The system calls Work Item Selection. The ID of the current workflow is already entered as a default setting. Define the search period.

  • Diagnosis

    Provides functions for error analysis.

  • Transport Transport Organizer

    Transport Synchronize runtime buffer

Synchronizes the runtime buffer for workflow data so that it contains up-to-date data from the relevant definition tables. If you have changed a Workflow and the change has not taken effect at runtime, it may be because the runtime buffer needs refreshing.

  • Translation

Here you can translate all language-dependent texts that appear in the workflow definition:

    • The names of steps and outcomes

    • Decision texts and titles

    • Names of container elements

You must choose Compare texts with transport version if the texts translated in the translation transaction are also to be available in this SAP System (see also: Transaction SE63). As standard, the translated texts are only transported to the subsequent systems.

In the translation transaction SE63 you can access the texts using the transport objects:

    • R3TR PDWS for workflow template

    • R3TR PDTG for task groups

    • R3TR PDTS for tasks. To translate the relevant task, enter its number (without WS).

  • Ad hoc functions

You can use this to change the workflow type to ad hoc. For more information, see Ad Hoc Workflow.

  • Special features

You correct the container structure or block structure if the system points out problems.

The definition time and runtime structure shows the underlying table entries for the processed workflow definition or runtime version. If you contact SAP about any errors that may have occurred, we recommend you have this information available.

The node definition contains technical specifications for the selected node.
