Vehicle Assignment The
Vehicle Overview
screen is used to assign one or more vehicles to the shipment during scheduling. When assigning a vehicle, you should take into account that the mode of transport is checked against the vehicle mode defined in the
bulk shipment type
. The system prevents assignments which are incompatible.
Following the assignment of vehicles, there is an option for
Driver Assignment
, however, at this stage of the scheduling process, the vehicle has simply been assigned to the shipment and has not yet been assigned to any underlying documents.
To assign vehicles to a shipment, choose
in the menu or choose the
Vehicle
tab.
The vehicle selected must be available and not marked for deletion, and you should make sure that the vehicle has the required load-bearing capacity. When assigning a vehicle, the system ensures that the same transport unit is not simultaneously assigned to several vehicles.
You enter the vehicle number in the
Vehicle Overview
screen.
Alternatively, a vehicle can be selected with the vehicle selection routine. After entering the selection criteria, the system returns a list of vehicles. From this list you can select the vehicles you want to use for the shipment.
If relevant, you enter a loading date, carrier, route, shift and trip for each vehicle.
The carrier may be proposed from the vehicle master data or the user can specify a carrier as each vehicle is assigned. A check ensures the carrier exists as a vendor. The carrier is then available for subsequent use in the shipment cost calculation.
For each assigned vehicle it is possible to specify the proposed route for the shipment. A check ensures the route specified is valid. This route is then available for subsequent use in the shipment cost calculation.
The shift is used to divide the day into time periods. A shift assignment is only mandatory for the entered vehicle, if this is defined as mandatory in the bulk shipment type.
A driver can be assigned to a specific shift in the driver master data, but this shift assignment is not checked when the driver is assigned to a vehicle
A trip can be assigned to a vehicle to further divide the shift. Several trips can be scheduled for a vehicle in a given shift across several shipments. If a trip is specified, the system checks that the vehicle is not assigned to another shipment for the same date, shift, and trip. The assignment of a trip is optional.
The following status fields are maintained for the vehicle:
S - current status of the vehicle with respect to scheduling, loading, delivery
C - status of the shipment costing at the vehicle level
T - status of the shipment cost settlement at the vehicle level
When creating or changing a shipment, when maintaining a completed shipment, or during shipment planning, you can assign an additional vehicle to the shipment that the system uses during shipment cost processing. You enter the vehicle in the
SC rel veh
(shipment cost relevant vehicle) field.
When you enter a vehicle that is relevant for shipment cost processing, the system checks to make sure that the mode of transport for the shipment cost vehicle is the same as that of the other vehicle. If there is a difference, the system displays an error message.
When a vehicle has been assigned to a shipment, you can go into the
Vehicle details
screen to make changes. This is a shipment view of the
vehicle
master data, and changes here are only valid for the shipment. You can change information for the equipment, identifier, unladen weight and maximum weight for the transport unit, and the compartment volumes.
After a vehicle has been assigned to the shipment, a possible next step is to assign a driver to the shipment. Driver assignment can only occur after a vehicle has been assigned to the shipment. You can assign one or more drivers to each of the scheduled vehicles. The driver selected must be available and not marked for deletion.
