Vehicle Meters

Definition

You can assign meters to the compartments of a transport unit to record loaded or delivered quantities.

You create vehicle meters using the master data transaction, and assign vehicle meters to compartments in the transport unit master data record. You can use vehicle meters are during loading confirmation or delivery confirmation.

Characteristics of the meter such as the unit of measure for the meter, number of digits on the meter, and an equipment number (linked to the Plant Maintenance system) are stored. The conversion factor is a number which, when multiplied by the meter reading, provides the actual quantity loaded or delivered. The start reading of the meter (reading when the meter is first installed) can be recorded to support meter reconciliation. The date and time of the last meter reconciliation is also recorded in the meter master data record.

You select the Deletion flag when the meter is no longer needed, so that the meter is blocked from being used in other shipments. When the re-organization program is run, the master data record for the meter is archived or deleted from the system, provided the meter is not assigned to any active shipments.

Structure

The following maintenance functions are available for vehicle meters:

  • Flushing

  • Recalibration

  • End reading

  • Reconciliation

Meter flushing can be used, for example, when a product is loaded that could interact badly with a new product. To prevent a bad reaction the compartments are cleaned or flushed, which causes a meter reading. The meter flushing function in TD allows you to mark a reading as a flush reading so that it is handled correctly when performing meter reconciliation.

Meters are recalibrated regularly for tax and other legal reasons. When a meter is recalibrated, the readings are adjusted or changed. The recalibration function in TD allows you to track the meter readings before and after calibration, and to disregard the difference when performing meter reconciliation.

The meter reconciliation report compares all the meter readings for a specified period and generates a report showing all meter readings and highlighting any inconsistencies.
