You have specified the settings in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools
under Import and Export
.
You have checked the environment parameter EXPORT_CHARACTER_NORM
in the Customizing activity Specify Environment Parameters
(see Character Standard).
You have the required authorizations and the relevant write authorization.
The system from which the data is taken (external environment) must be capable of providing the data in the correct character standard. The external environment can also be an SAP system.
Importing data from a non-SAP system
To create the transfer file for importing data from an external (non-SAP) system, proceed as follows:
When writing the transfer file, take the following guidelines into account:
Importing data from an SAP system
To exchange data between two SAP systems, you first perform the data export. The SAP system automatically creates a transfer file that can then be used to perform the import.
Copy the transfer file, which you have either created yourself or generated by means of an export, to any directory on your PC.
To copy the transfer file from the directory on your PC to the application server, choose Tools
→ Data Transfer
→ Upload File
in the Basic Data and Tools menu.
Note
Ensure that your operating system can read the file format created without errors, to avoid problems with carriage return and carriage line feed, for example.
The import is performed for each transfer file in succession. Execute the following steps:
Perform a file check
(pre-import). If the SAP system detects an error, you can download the transfer file to a directory on your PC using the Download File
function, correct it in an ASCII editor, and upload it again.
Perform the data import, which runs as a background job.
