Backup and Restore

Backup and recovery are important to protect data from corruptions, hardware failures, and data failures. To protect the Application Server environment from potential disaster, backup and recovery are the most important aspects of the administration. It helps to bring the Application Server environment into a consistent state. It is most important to backup the application data in a database or in data files in a file system. The installation or configuration does not need to be backed up. It can be reinstalled from the original source. A backup would only decrease the reinstallation time slightly. The final backup infrastructure depends on the system landscape and infrastructure used in specific customer projects. This is why the final backup infrastructure should be provided by the customer.

Database Backup

The application does not use a database.

Data Files Backup

The backup of data files, which are located in the file system, is not as important as the database backup. All of these files should only be saved to the temporary storage so that they can be recreated from the source. However, losing some application data would increase the recovery time or disable the tracing possibilities or analysis of system actions. GK recommends backing up the data files listed below:

  • All log files of all systems with a history of at least 7 days

The backup infrastructure for application data is heavily dependent on the operating system and installation structure used. It should be realized using OS-specific tooling provided by OS vendors. GK can provide expertise and experience.
