Archiving and Data Destruction in Human Resources
An archiving object contains data that is related from a business perspective and that can be archived or destroyed collectively. Human Resources encompasses various types of archiving objects:
Archiving objects that support the destruction of data
Archiving objects that support archiving in addition to the destruction of data
Archiving objects (in the personnel planning area) that support archiving
You destroy data for data privacy reasons. When destroying data, the data that is to be destroyed is temporarily written to an archive file once the retention period has been reached and then deleted from the operational system and from the archive system, and is thereby destroyed.
You perform archiving for cost-saving reasons to store data that you no longer require in an archive so that you have more storage capacity available in the database. During archiving, the data is moved from the operational system to a connected archive system. The data can be deleted from the database in the operational system. The data is stored in the archive system until the retention period is reached.
For more information about the difference between the terms archive, delete, and destroy, see Introduction to the Destruction of Data.

Note
If you use the Cross-Application Time Sheet, you can use the CATS_DATA
archiving object to archive or destroy time sheet data. For more information, see Archiving/Destroying Time Sheet Data Using CATS_DATA (CA-TS).
