3D Actions Menu

Use

The 3D Actions menu can be used to perform a number of functions, including flying the camera to the selected objects and unifying normals.

Features

The following options are available from the menu:

Menu Option

Functional Description

Bake Transformation

Fixes vertices in place by removing any transformations that are on an object and fixing the vertices into that transformed position. It works both on the whole scene and on a selection (see Bake Transformations).

Convert to Double-Sided

Duplicates object polygons to display the same surface on the front and back faces of the objects (Converting to Double-Sided).

Fix Bone Hierarchy

Fixes the bone hierarchy in the model

Fly Camera to Selection

Zooms into the viewport to focus on the selected objects.

Go to URL

Used for PMI notes that contain a URL. Moves to the nominated URL.

Invert Faces

Inverts all faces.

Invert Faces and Normals

Inverts all faces and normals

Invert Normals

Inverts all normals

Join Equal Points

Joins all the points that have equal (coincident) x,y,z coordinates.

PMI to Plain Text

Converts all PMI to plain text

Randomize Objects

Used to perturb the surface of the model or object by small, random amounts, while maintaining correct normals so that the object still looks smooth.

Remove Degenerate Triangles

Removes all degenerate triangles from the scene or from the selected objects depending on your selection.

Remove Duplicate Faces

Removes all duplicate faces from the scene or from the selected objects depending on your selection. This option is helpful if you want to optimize the model size and render speed.

Remove Duplicate Materials

Removes all duplicate materials from the scene or from the selected objects depending on your selection. This option is helpful if you want to optimize the model size and render speed.

Remove Duplicate Meshes

Opens the Remove Duplicate Meshes window. You can remove all duplicate meshes from the scene or from the selected objects depending on your selection. This option is helpful if you want to optimize the model size and render speed.
  • Keep Objects with Metadata: Empty nodes with metadata aren't removed. Duplicate nodes with metadata aren't removed unless their metadata is equal.

  • Check Mesh Materials: Mesh duplicates that have different materials aren't removed.

Unify Normals

Opens the Unify Normals window and is used to align all surface normals in the same direction.

Separate by Materials

Separates meshes if an object contains meshes with separate materials. The resulting meshes have a single material and as many objects are created as there are materials.

Separate Meshes

Groups a model that is grouped under one object but made up of a number of separate meshes, as separate meshes under the objects name
