Splitting Limited Change ItemsYou want to create an unlimited change for a standard item. A limited subtractive change (e.g. a suspension or a redirection) already exists in the period for the planned unlimited change. The following variants might apply in this case:
Possible variant |
Additional activity required |
The limited change is entirely in the period of the planned unlimited change. |
None. You can create the unlimited change without any problems; the system assigns the limited change automatically to the new standard item that was created as a result of the unlimited change. |
The limited change overlaps both with the period of the standard item to be changed and with the period of the planned unlimited change. |
Split the limited change item. You split the limited change item into two periods. The split date must correspond to the start date of the validity period for the unlimited change. This means the period for the limited change, which is not yet past, is encompassed by the period of the unlimited change and can be assigned to it. |
Example
The following diagram contains an example in which an unlimited change is to be made to a standard item in an order starting on June 5 th , 2000. However, this date is in the period of a suspension that applies from June 1 st to June 20 th . It is not possible to assign the suspension uniquely to the unlimited change, so that you must split the suspension into two periods. Splitting the suspension on June 5 th means that the second split period of the suspension is entirely within the period of the unlimited change and can therefore have a new reference to the latter.
Select the limited change item in the item overview or call up its item data. For example, the change can be a suspension, redirection, gift transfer or charitable transfer.

Split item.
The system queries the split date (valid-from date of second split period for limited change). The current date is entered as default. The split date should match the valid-from date of the planned unlimited change.
Enter a valid-from date other than the current date, if applicable, and confirm your entry.
The system uses the day before the split date as the valid-to date of the first split period.
Save the split change item.
The system closes the first split period change item. It also creates a second change item with the same data in addition to the closed change item. The validity period for this second change item begins on the split date and corresponds to the remaining period for the original change item.
You can now create the planned unlimited change since the validity periods now no longer overlap.
