Resources and Locations in MSP You can use the following types of resources and locations in
Maintenance and Service Planning
(MSP):
Service areas and locations transferred from SAP R/3
You can transfer plants and work centers from SAP R/3 to locations and service areas respectively in SAP SCM for use in MSP. To do this, you use the integration model. For more information, see Transfer of Master Data for MSP from SAP R/3 to SAP SCM .
Once you have transferred the SAP R/3 work centers to SAP SCM, you have to create a proxy service area resource in the Maintenance Task List function in SAP SCM for every SAP R/3 work center that you have transferred. For more information, see Creating Proxy Service Area Resources .
Service areas and locations created directly in SAP SCM

If you create service areas in SAP SCM that have no link to work centers in SAP R/3, you cannot transfer any planning data using these service areas to SAP SCM.
You can create additional service areas and locations directly in SAP SCM, either in the
Maintenance Task List
function, or by using the standard
SAP SCM Master Data
functions
Resource
and
Location
.
Other resources
If you require mechanics, tools, or other types of resources for planning purposes, you create these either in the
Maintenance Task List
function, or in the standard SAP SCM
Master Data
functions.
After you have transferred resources and locations to SAP SCM or created resources and locations in SAP SCM, you have to assign those resources to the model you want to use for planning purposes. For more information, see APO Model Maintenance .
