Creation and Editing of Transportation Units
You can use this function to create, edit, and display transportation units.
You have defined the transportation unit types in Customizing. Within the transportation unit type, you configure the most important settings for the transportation unit. For more information, see Customizing for Transportation Management
under .
You have the following options:
Manual creation in the transportation cockpit
You can create transportation units using drag and drop or using the relevant pushbutton. For example, you create a trailer unit by assigning existing transportation stages (that is, freight units) to a trailer. For more information, see Use of Trailers.
Manual creation on the user interface for creating trailer units, railcar units, and container units
You create the transportation unit and enter the items. To do so, choose one of the following user interfaces in SAP NetWeaver Business Client:
You can create a forwarding order and freight units from the transportation unit. For more information, see Creation of Forwarding Orders from Freight Orders. You can also create a capacity document, such as a freight order.
Automatic creation from a forwarding order
If, instead of creating freight units, you want to create transportation units automatically from your forwarding order, enter a transportation unit type in the freight unit building rule. This function is also available for order-based and delivery-based transportation requirements. For more information, see Creation and Editing of Freight Units.
Automatic creation in VSR optimization (road transportation only)
When you execute a VSR optimizer run with trucks, trailers, and freight units, the system generates trailer units and assigns these to particular trucks.
Manual creation by copying
You can create a transportation unit by copying an existing one (reference document). The system copies the header data and the logistical data. However, it does not copy references to freight units and the confirmed capacity.
You can also create more than one copy of an existing transportation unit at the same time. In addition to the number of copies, you can specify whether the numbers of the created documents are to be displayed in the dialog box.
Note
You cannot copy transportation units that were created automatically during freight unit building (for a shortcut scenario, see Freight Unit Building Rule).
After you have created the transportation unit, enter the following information:
Route
You can either enter a route manually or apply a standard route (see Default Route).
Assignment to capacity documents and vehicle resources
Trailer unit
You define at which locations coupling or uncoupling takes place. You also define to or from which tractor the trailer is coupled or uncoupled. Moreover, you assign the trailer unit to a freight order. You make these assignments in the transportation cockpit, for example. For more information, see Use of Trailers.
Railcar unit
From your railcar unit, you create a rail freight order with a locomotive item (or one rail freight order for each transportation stage). Alternatively, you can also create the rail freight order separately and then assign the railcar unit. For more information, see Rail Freight Order and Rail Transportation.
Container unit
You can assign the container unit to different capacity documents depending on the required transportation mode:
Freight bookings
Rail freight orders
Freight orders
Railcar units
Trailer units
You then enter the required vehicle resource in the capacity document, such as the ship or airplane to be used to transport the container unit. You can create the capacity document directly from the container unit or you can create it separately and then assign the container unit.
If you assign a transportation unit to a capacity document, the system automatically transfers the transportation unit items. For more information, see Transfer of Transportation Unit Items.
