Moving an Object or Folder (Cut / Paste)Locate this document in the navigation structure

Context

To move folders and objects within the Portal Catalog structure, use the Cut and Paste options available in the Portal Catalog context menus. Cutting and pasting a folder moves the folder contents as well.

The move action is controlled by an interactive wizard, which first performs a series of verification steps before proceeding. For more information, see Verification Criteria .

Procedure

  1. In the Portal Catalog, in the context menu of the folder or object you want to move, choose Cut .

    Note
    • The portal utilizes an internal clipboard to retain items that you have copied to it; items in the Clipboard of your operating system are not affected.

    • An object in the "cut" state remains in its original location until you paste it elsewhere. There is no visual indication in the Portal Catalog that an object is in a transient "cut" state.

  2. In the Portal Catalog, in the context menu of the folder to which you want to move the object or folder, choose Paste . The Move wizard opens.

    Note

Until the move action has been completed, the wizard locks the following objects:

    • The selected object or folder, and the objects in the selected folder

    • The destination folder

    • Dependent objects in other Portal Catalog locations

  3. Complete the wizard.

Results

You are notified once the selected objects have been successfully moved to the destination folder. All objects that were locked by the system as a result of the action are then released.

The objects and folders that you have moved inherit the permissions of the destination folder.

Note

If the action is interrupted, the Portal Catalog is restored to its initial state.
