Before you create fingerprints for FORMs and STYLs, ensure that the following criteria have been satisfied:
Your system is on SAP NetWeaver 7.4 Support Package level 2 or higher
You have created a worklist containing all translation-relevant FORM and STYL objects
As of SAP NetWeaver 7.4 Support Package level 2, the translation status of SAPscript forms (object type FORM) and styles (object type STYL) is determined by fingerprints when they are evaluated to create worklists and statistics. In the past, their translation status was determined by time stamps instead.
The translation status indicates whether a FORM or STYL object is new, translated, or has been modified since it was last translated. The status of an object is indicated by its color.
New
The source text is new, which means it has not been translated. New objects are highlighted in red .
Translated
The source text has been translated, and the translation is up-to-date. Translated objects are highlighted in green .
Modified
The source text has been translated, but the translation is outdated. Modified objects are highlighted in yellow .
The main reason why fingerprints have replaced time stamps to determine the translation status of FORMs and STYLs is that time stamps sometimes proved unreliable, especially when the translations of FORMs and STYLs were transported from one translation system to another.
You need to generate fingerprints if you have translated FORMs and/or STYLs:
In another system where their status was determined by time stamps, after which you transported the translations to this system where fingerprints are used instead
In this system before it was upgraded to SAP NetWeaver 7.4 Support Package level 2
If you do not generate fingerprints, FORMs and STYLs that used to have translated status (on the basis of time stamps) will change to modified simply because the fingerprints are missing.
You do not need to generate fingerprints for any FORMs or STYLs translated in a system that is already on SAP NetWeaver 7.4 Support Package level 2 or higher. In such systems, the fingerprint is created automatically as soon as you release your translation in the translation editor.
Execute (F8).The report creates fingerprints for FORMs and STYLs in the specified worklist that used to have translated status in accordance with the old time stamp logic. After the report has finished, you can see how many fingerprints were created for each target language in the spool in transaction Overview of Job Selection (SM37).
