Scanning for Duplicate Proposals for the Same Source TextLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

See the Prerequisites section in DEMS Objects for Quality Assurance.

Context

You can scan the proposal pool to find instances where a specified number of identical proposals exist for the same source text. For example, you can find proposal pool entries where the system standard and domain standard are exactly the same translation. You can then delete the domain standard without causing any modified lines, which reduces the size of the proposal pool and therefore improves the performance of the translation tools.

Procedure

  1. Call transaction LXE_MASTER.
  2. Choose Start of the navigation path DEMS Objects. Next navigation step PP Analysis Next navigation step Duplicates End of the navigation path

The DEMS - Find Duplicates in Proposal Pool screen appears.

  3. Define the criteria for your scan as follows:

    Source Language

Enter the source language for the scan.

    Target Language

Enter the target language for the scan.

    Object Name

Enter a text string in the Object Name field that will help you recognize the DEMS objects when you call them up in transaction SE63.

    Description

You can enter a description of up to 40 characters to document how you created the DEMS objects.

    Minimum Frequency

Enter the minimum number of duplicate proposals in this field. For example, if you want the DEMS objects to contain source texts that have two or more duplicate proposals in the specified target language, enter 2 in this field.

    Domain and Ignore Application

If you enter * in the Domain field and nothing in the Ignore Application field, the report searches for duplicate proposals that occur within any domain. For example, you scan the German to English proposal pool for duplicates with a minimum frequency of 3. For the German source text Anwendungskomponente, the English proposal Applic. Component occurs three times within the domain BC. It exists as a BC domain standard, as an abbreviation of the BC domain standard Application Component, and as an abbreviation of the BC domain standard Application component. The German source text Anwendungskomponente is therefore included in the DEMS objects.

If you enter * in the Domain field and X in the Ignore Application field, the report searches for duplicate proposals that occur across domains. For example, you scan the German to English proposal pool for duplicates with a minimum frequency of 3. For the German source text Erledigung, the English proposal Completion occurs three times. It exists as a system standard, as a CA domain standard, and as an FS domain standard. The German source text Erledigung is therefore included in the DEMS objects.

If you specify a domain in the Domain field, the report only searches for duplicates within this domain. In this case, the Ignore Application field is completely irrelevant. For example, you scan the German to English proposal pool for duplicates in the domain TR. If the English translation Cancel has been duplicated for the domain TR, then the German source text is included in the DEMS objects. However, if the English translation Maintain has been duplicated for the domain FI, then the German source text is not included in the DEMS objects.

  4. Schedule the job to run in the background.

Results

The report scans the proposal pool and creates DEMS objects in accordance with your selection criteria. The DEMS objects contain source texts in the requested source language for which duplicate proposals exist in the requested target language.

PP_DUP is included in the technical name of each DEMS object.

You can now trigger processing of these DEMS objects. For more information, see Processing DEMS Objects for Quality Assurance.
