Exporting Translation SettingsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

The translation system settings defined in transaction Translation Environment (LXE_MASTER) are local settings. However, you might want to export these settings in order to either create a system backup or because it is sometimes necessary to reuse exactly the same settings either in another translation system, or even in the same system after a reset. Possible use cases for exporting translation settings include:

  • Moving translation to another identical system

  • Setting up a new translation system where the same settings are to be used

  • Resetting a translation system to an older state

  • Checking text completeness using a worklist evaluation, for example, in a test system

Note

As translation settings (for example, collections and users, and so on) are system-specific, you must be aware that it only makes sense to export translation settings to a system that is on exactly the same software level.

Prerequisites

The system from which you want to export the translation settings must be set up for translation and R3trans must also be set up correctly. The following R3trans settings can be relevant depending on the system type and transport settings of the systems concerned:

  • Use R3trans unconditional mode 1 at export due to the local table class of most of the LXE_MASTER tables. It is therefore not possible to simply release the transport request in the transport workbench.

  • Use R3trans unconditional modes 9 and 8 at import, otherwise the local class tables are not imported.

Caution

To avoid inconsistencies, ensure that the translation users defined in LXE_MASTER in the source system already exist as system users in the target system. Be aware that any translation settings in the target system are overwritten by the import.

Procedure
  1. Call transaction LXE_MASTER in the system from which you want to export the translation settings.

  2. Choose Start of the navigation path Transport Next navigation step Export Settings End of the navigation path.

  3. Enter a meaningful description for the export in the Description field.

  4. In the Target field, enter the name of the target system to which you want to export the translation settings.

  5. If you select the Export Immediately checkbox, then the transport request is released automatically.

  6. Use the three checkboxes in the Translation Settings group box to refine your export:

    • Basic: Select this checkbox to include all internal LXE_MASTER settings in the export request. For example, translation languages, graphs, translation users, assignments, profiles, and translation groups are all included in the export.

    • Object Exceptions: Select this checkbox to include local translation exceptions in the export, that is, any entries that you have made in table LXE_LEXPT.

    • Object Comments: Select this checkbox to include any comments made by translators about objects in transaction Translation: Initial Screen (SE63) in the export.

  7. Select Execute Execute to export the translation settings.

Result

The translation settings are transported to the target system where you can import them.
