Importing Texts After Offline TranslationLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

You have completed at least one export to create export files for offline translation. Ideally, translation of these export files is complete, however it is possible to import files when translation is not yet finished.

Context

You use this function to import the translations of short texts and PDF-based forms that have previously been exported for offline translation. During import you can create proposals in the proposal pool; you can create domain standards or system standards and you can assign a quality status to the proposals.

Procedure

  1. Call transaction LXE_MASTER and choose Start of the navigation path Transport Next navigation step Externalization Next navigation step Import End of the navigation path. The Import Translation Objects screen is displayed.
  2. In the Parameters group box, in the Export ID field, enter the unique ID of the export file you want to import.
  3. Select whether you want to import your translation files from the server or the frontend and enter the correct path name.
  4. In the Filters group box you can decide to import a subset of target languages from the export file or allow the partial import of single translation files from the export file. These filters are optional.
  5. In the Short Text Specific Options group box, use any combination of the checkboxes to specify if the short text translations are only inserted into the system (existing short text translations are not overwritten) or if modified or translated lines are overwritten with the new translations.

    Insert New Lines

Translations of short text lines are inserted into lines that have the status New. Nothing is overwritten

    Overwrite Modified Lines

Translations of short text lines are imported into lines that have the status Modified. Existing translations are overwritten.

    Overwrite Translated Lines

Translations of short text lines are imported into lines that have the status Translated. Existing translations are overwritten.

  6. In the Create Proposals group box, use the checkboxes to determine if the imported translations are generated in the proposal pool as domain standards, system standards, or not at all. You can also assign a quality status to the generated proposals.
    Note

We recommend that you do not change the default value so that domain standards are generated with quality status X (9).

  7. If your export files contain PDF-based forms, you can use any combination of the checkboxes in the PDF Options group box to specify exactly how the translated objects are imported into the system.

    Insert New Objects

Translations of PDF-based forms are inserted into objects that have the status New. Nothing is overwritten.

    Overwrite Modified Objects

Translations of PDF-based forms are imported into objects that have the status Modified. Existing translations are overwritten.

    Overwrite Translated Objects

Translations of PDF-based forms are imported into objects that have the status Translated. Existing translations are overwritten.

    Note

PDF-based forms are exported and imported as entire objects. It is not possible to export or import specific lines of text within an individual PDF-based form.

  8. Use the checkbox to determine if the translation status of PDF-based objects is set to translated when their translations are imported.

Results

The translations are imported according to the criteria that you selected. You can now export these translations as source texts for translation into other languages, or transport the translations to other downstream systems using transport recording.
