Display Central Reports in the NW Administrator 

Use

You can use this plug-in to display monitoring data from a central monitoring system (CEN) in a simple and clear interface in the SAP NetWeaver Administrator. When you do so, all monitor sets and monitors from the Alert Monitor of the CEN are available to you, and the monitoring data itself comes from all monitored systems.

In this plug-in, you therefore see both current performance values and messages from the monitored systems and components and problem messages (alerts) that you have not yet completed. An alert is generated, for example, if a value exceeds or falls below a particular threshold value, a message with the corresponding value is generated, or a component is inactive for a defined period of time.

Prerequisites

The following prerequisites must be fulfilled for you to be able to display monitor sets and monitors from the monitoring infrastructure in the NW Administrator:

●      You must have completed the configuration of CEN (see Configuring the Monitoring Architecture). In particular, you must have entered the systems to be monitored in the monitoring infrastructure of CEN (see Monitoring Multiple Systems).

●      All systems to be monitored must be entered in your System Landscape Directory (SLD).

●      You have connected the SLD to the NW Administrator (see Configuring the SAP NetWeaver Administrator to Work with the SLD)

●      You have entered the connection to CEN in the Visual Administrator (see Defining the Central Monitoring System for the NW Administrator).

Select the Monitors to Be Displayed (Select Monitors)

To display monitoring data from CEN, first choose the monitor set (View Set) and the monitor (View) that you want to display. For an overview of the standard monitors delivered by SAP, see Predefined Monitors of the Alert Monitor.

While in the Alert Monitor, only data from the local system is displayed in most of the standard monitors, in the NW Administrator, data is displayed from all systems that you have selected in the System Landscape Selection (see System Landscape Selection).

Display the Monitoring Data (All Monitors)

●      The monitor that you selected appears in a table-type tree structure. Every row displayed with a triangle pointing right at the start of the row () is also the root node of a subtree. You can open the next level of this subtree by choosing this icon, or choosing the Open Subtree button.

●      Each row has one of the following alert statuses:

This alert status is propagated upward in the tree hierarchy, meaning that the alert status of a root node always corresponds to the highest alert in the underlying subtree. If a node is not displaying an alert, there is also no error in the entire branch below it.

Current Node

The node in the monitoring tree for which you last selected the checkbox at the start of the row is the current node. It is highlighted with an orange frame. You can display additional information for this node:

●      For monitoring attributes, you can display current data (Current Values). Depending on the type of the monitoring attribute, these include the newest numerical values, maximum and minimum values, or messages that were reported in this node by the monitoring infrastructure. The system also displays a short description of the node.

●      In addition to their values and the assigned alerts, the nodes also contain properties and methods that are displayed on the Configuration tab page. Depending on the type of the node, these are, for example, the threshold values as of which an alert is generated, or the methods that are assigned to the node. In the NW Administrator, you only have read access to these values. ●      If a threshold value is exceeded for a node, or a critical message is reported, an alert is generated for this node. The Alert Browser displays the alerts that have been generated for the current node, even if the current value of the node has normalized again. If the current node contains a subtree, all values of the subtree are displayed.

●      To check the previous values of the current node, choose the History tab page.

Activities

To work with the Central Reports plug-in of the NW Administrator, perform the following steps:

       1.      In the System Landscape Selection, select the systems that you want to monitor.

       2.      Go through the monitor sets and monitors that contain the data that is relevant for you. These could, for example, be the following sets:

SAP CCMS Technical Operation Templates	Templates that contain the most important monitored values for the regular monitoring of the SAP Web AS ABAP and Java

●        To find out which monitor sets and monitors contain values for your monitored application, see the documentation for your application.

●        You can create monitor sets and monitors yourself in CEN. For more information, see Creating and Changing Monitors.

       3.      To ensure that you are seeing all alerts that exist in your monitors, switch to the Alerts view by choosing this entry from the Display dropdown list. An alert for a node is displayed in this view even if the node no longer contains an alert in the Current Data view due to a new message or better values being reported.

       4.      To analyze an alert for the current node, choose the Analyze button next to the display of the current node. For most nodes of the SAP Web AS ABAP, this starts an appropriate transaction for the alert in the corresponding system, with which you can investigate the alert.

       5.      If you have corrected the cause of the alert, or have determined that the alert was caused by a temporary problem and can be ignored, select the relevant row in the Alert Browser and choose Complete Alerts. The alerts are then deleted from the active alerts (and therefore no longer displayed in the Alerts display), and are saved in the Alert History.
