Location determination activities determine which actions you want the system to execute during location determination.

Features

Means of Transport for ALE Third-Party Order Processing or Stock Transfer

Determining the means of transport as a location determination activity is relevant to transportation and shipment scheduling.

The means of transport is used to carry out transportation between locations. You can assign a means of transport to the activity. For the location determination you thereby define the means of transport that should be used to carry out the delivery from the location. The means of transport is relevant to scheduling in third-party order processing.

Scheduling is called. As a result, a material availability date is returned and the ATP check is carried out. A new material availability date and a new delivery date can possibly result from this.

Business event

You can assign a business event to the location determination activity. In rules-based ATP you have the option to define, via the location determination, which check control and which scope of check should be used in the product availability check. You also influence the check instructions that are made up of the check mode and the business event.

If, through rules-based change, you influence the ATP check so that sales orders are confirmed, although they could not actually be confirmed, you generate overconfirmations in the system that you must cancel again using manual or automatic backorder processing. Otherwise, situations can occur in which you can not deliver in spite of confirmation. If this should happen, you must configure the scope of check in delivery in such a way that no sales documents (offers, requests, sales orders, and so on) are taken into account.

A correction to the confirmations must be made then at the latest using backorder processing.

Check Mode

You can assign a check mode to the location determination activity. For the location determination you thereby determine which check method or combination of check methods are to be used in the availability check.

Note the following:

  • For settings that exist both in the location determination activity and the check instructions (that are defined via the check mode and the business event of the calling application), the availability check uses the settings in the location determination activity (for example, calling Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS)).

  • If you have set all check methods to neutral results in the check instructions belonging to the check mode, an availability check is carried out and everything confirmed.

Note that the check mode and the business event must be assigned to check instructions.

For more information about the check mode, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) for SAP Supply Chain Management (SAP SCM) under   Advanced Planning and Optimization   Global Available-to-Promise (Global ATP)   General Settings   Maintain Check Mode  .

Production

You can define in the location determination activity if, for location determinations, Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS) is called in the form of Capable-To-Promise (CTP) processing or a multilevel ATP check. It is the case that for settings that exist both in the location determination activity and in the check instructions (for example, calling PP/DS), the settings of the location determination activity are used by the availability check. You can therefore control further processes more precisely using the location determination activity. This also means that in a substitution group, for example, in which you only want to partially call Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling for location determinations, location determination activities of the type Availability check only, no production have to be maintained explicitly. For more information, see Capable-To-Promise (CTP) and Multilevel ATP Check.

Subcontracting

In the location determination activity, you can determine whether subcontracting is to be performed in the substitute location. This setting is only appropriate for substitute locations of the type Supplier. Activating subcontracting automatically leads to activation of stock removal and production (production directly). For more information, see Subcontracting with the Rules-Based ATP Check.

Activation of a stock transfer

For more information, see Stock Transfer with the Rules-Based ATP Check.

Third-party order processing (TPOP)

In the location determination activity, you can determine whether third-party order processing should be called during location determination. For more information, see Third-Party Order Processing by Source Determination.
